Bitcoin for online poker? Bitcoin for online poker?

Came across this article in slate today:
http://www.slate.com/id/2294980/?from=rss

Anybody use bitcoin to play online poker?

Also, pretty ridiculous that the article lumps in poker players with criminals, tax-evaders, pornographers, drug dealers, and other unsavory types.

Not blaming the OP in any way, but that article was a steaming pile of condescension.

Agreed. Pretty appalled by that from a major online news magazine.

Eh. Given this article and the second article i read explaining why only criminals and sociopaths use $100 bills, I doubt I'll be returning there for any kind of news information.

On topic: I doubt I'd be comfortable using bitcoins for online poker. I do this for a living, and having to go through the extra hassle + the fluctuating value of the bitcoin makes it far less reliable as a regular source of income.

If I remember correctly somebody asked about this in one of the FTP answers threads and they said they had no plans for it.

Seems like a pretty interesting concept, someone will probably do it at some stage.

Governments (especially the US) are not a big fan of unmonitored currencies. If bitcoin even got a sniff of being big time, it would have governments from all around the world crashing down on it.

Bitcoin is an interesting intellectual exercise, but it will have major liquidity and exchange problems.

Not for me.

what about this:

We make a home game on pokerstars.net. We agree that 1000play chips = 1 bitcoin. We each deposit 10 bitcoins into a holding account and each sitdown with 10 000 playchips. When we leave the owner of the holding account pay us playchips/1000 in bitcoin. The holding account owner gets the rake.

slight difference is that once you paid with bitcoin you cannot cancel the deal and keep the your money and unlike paypal, bitcoin does not care what you pay for.

For those of you who haven't heard of bitcoin, its a newish fully digital currency that uses peer to peer technology to trade bitcoins directly with eachother. This means you don't need a bank and you don't need a 3rd party such as PayPal to send and receive bitcoins -- and best of all, no one can hack this network without basically taking over everyones computers. I never thought I would call anything unhackable -- this also means it cannot be shut down by any one person or group or government.

CBS news explanation of them:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYiWHNkZIes&feature=fvsr

Very detailed information here:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/FAQ

A few months ago bitcoins were valued at pennies to the dollar, now they are staying steady around $15, you can buy bitcoins at bitcoin exchanges very easily and sell them as well with almost no fees.

Anyway, here is the first poker room that I found where you can use bitcoins to play poker.

https://betco.in/

Thoughts? In before lulzsec hacks it.. All web based currently, but I see a big future for bitcoins, do some research and you will too.

I just read a news article a couple days ago about someone getting hacked and having something like 450K worth of bitcoins stolen.

There's been some trojans recently hacking bitcoin accounts and draining them. One person apparently lost almost a half million $ at the current market rate. Too lazy to find the articles now. It's too early to say for sure whether Bitcoin is a ponzi scheme, but it likely is. I really wouldn't recommend investing heavily in it, if at all.

Bitcoins has nothing to do with a ponzi, just do a lot more research on it with the links provided.
