It took about 30 mins, they give you a debit card on the spot. You get home and you email pokerstars your American drivers license and just show them your bank statement that you opened the account with. Voila and you're done. Pokerstars will probably email you back within 15 mins and you can deposit with the debit card and you're on grinding away on stars!! BAM!! For depositing you just use you're debit card, and when you withdraw it just goes back into your checking account within 2 days. Just forget all the crap we went thru in US. It's all over when you get to Canada, it's just like grinding in the old days. Hope this helps, this is all my first hand experience that I went thru last year in May, it was such a breeze I felt dumb worrying about it when i first moved over.
If this is their current list of requirements they've become more lax over time. You used to need

1) a full bank statement showing your address (if its not a monthly statement, you need additional documentation from the bank. I don't recall what that is)

2) A phone bill from the new address (had to be a land line)

3) A lease agreement

They would not proceed until you provided all these documents. They did not email you back in 15 minutes. The whole process took 1-2 weeks from start to finish. I should know... I went through it along with several other ppl I know.

I haven't found any useful threads on this topic, if there is one please refer me to it and I apologize if i missed it.

I am an Ohio resident looking to make the move to Canada to play on poker stars. I am hoping someone on here who has made the transition can give me the very important info and tips needed to make this go smoothly. I am looking to try it out for about 6 months before obtaining permanent residency if at all possible.

What do you need to do this? So far I have just obtained my passport and I know there is much more to this than that. Please help me with the steps in the process and what exactly needs to be done. The do's and donts of the process would be appreciated.

Curious if there is still a lot of expats from the US or other areas overseas and how you balance you life overseas and being an American. Problems in your adopted country? Did you try it and if so, why'd you continue / stop?

Balance how? If you mean not sitting at home staring at screens too much, its not that hard. Stay in the gym or active somehow, eat healthy, have some sort of social life, and get a girlfriend(s).
