The new software will be faster and more reliable than the current one and the interface will also be upgraded.

Unibet Poker has officially announced that they will be introducing the new, 2.0 version of their software, which will be faster and more efficient than the current version.

According to Andrew West, Head of Poker at Unibet, they have been working on the software for a long time and are looking forward to hearing feedback from their players regarding the product.

Unibet left the Microgaming (MPN) network in 2014 and worked as a standalone client for roughly two years. In May, the room announced that the former Microgaming network room Pokerihuone will be joining them and that more rooms will follow, which means Unibet has become a network on their own.

Unibet is focused on recreational players and their business model is working wonderfully.

While many rooms and networks are facing struggles, Unibet's revenues are constantly increasing, in the first half of 2016 they earned 37% more revenue than in the first part of 2015, with cash game traffic increasing a whopping 45% in this time period.

With the new software Unibet is moving away from the Adobe Air technology, which allows for the operation of Flash based games. According to the company, while the technology has its advantages, it restricted their ability to develop their applications.

The new software will be introduced during the Unibet Open in Copenhagen and will be followed by a closed beta test.

The network changed their tournament schedule and their rebuy tournaments without notifying the players.

On Monday, the iPoker network significantly changed their tournament schedule, increasing the number of multi-entry and knockout tournaments, decreasing the number of freezeout tournaments and expanding the number of paying spots in the tournaments.

Some players also noticed after the schedule change that rebuys and add-ons are now raked in the network.


The changes were not well received by the community, but the fact that the network failed to issue a press release or send any notification e-mails to their players about the changes is a much bigger issue.

There is absolutely no information in the client about the rake change and the only way players could learn about it is by manually calculating the prize pools after a tournament has finished.

In a €1 rebuy tournament today there were a total of 280 unique entrants and they bought 329 rebuys and 158 add-ons. This created a prize pool of €697,97, which means that every rebuy and add-on had an additional fee of €0,09.

Although the schedule could still be subject to changes, it looks like the monthly guaranteed prize pools will be around €3 million, significantly down from the previous schedule which paid out around €5 million each month.

The Microgaming Poker Network (MPN) is now the fifth biggest provider on the .COM/.EU market based on their cash game traffic.

According to cash game traffic tracking site PokerScout, the Microgaming Poker Network took over the iPoker network with an average of 850 cash game players at the tables in the past 7 days, with iPoker averaging 800 players during the same time period.

This is the first time since 2007 that MPN managed to take over iPoker. Microgaming has increased their traffic by a total of 45% in the past two years and 30% from 2015 to 2016, which is a fantastic performance in the current declining industry, even more so when we take into account that Unibet and Ladbrokes have both left the network.

In the past two years, Microgaming decreased rake and implemented various changes aimed at creating a healthier ecology on the network. These included permitting screen name changes, not allowing short-stacking and waging a war against seating scripts.


iPoker is showing the exact opposite trend. Their total traffic has declined by 50% in the past two years and 35% from 2015 to 2016.

Microgaming is currently the biggest network on the .COM/.EU market, the only rooms with more traffic are standalone rooms: PokerStars, 888poker, Bodog and Partypoker.

The iPoker network's already declining traffic could take an even bigger hit with the changes.

The iPoker network has officially announced that they are fully withdrawing from the Ukranian market and that several iPoker rooms are also leaving the Russian market.


According to the company, they have already left the Ukranian market on August 15 and have notified all local players. The client will still be available to them until the end of the month so they can withdraw their balances but they can't sit at the tables anymore.

Their decision to leave the market came as quite a surprise since online poker is very popular in the country and the Ukranian government has made no steps to restrict online gambling providers.

The Russian gambling regulator, the Roskomnadzor however has already banned several sites in Russia which provide online gambling services without a license. As a result of this, Gala Poker, Coral Poker and Mansion Poker are all leaving the country.

As we have previously reported, the iPoker network's cash game traffic has declined 35% from last year and 50% total in the past two years. Since Russian players make up a large percentage of the global online poker player pool, the departure of the aforementioned rooms could cause an additional drop in the network's traffic.

This September players in the network can participate in a total of 40 daily and weekly all-in freerolls and can win up to €1,000 in the €25,000 Twister Races.

A given player can only win one seat. If they win a PA Open 3 seat and place in a winning spot in another satellite, their seat will be passed on to the player in the next finishing position that has no seat yet.

If a player wins a PA Open 3 seat then finishes second in another satellite where we give away three tickets, the fourth place finisher in the second satellite will receive the seat.

Swedish online gambling giant Betsson AB has announced that they have purchased the company behind TonyBet, the online poker site launched by Tony G.

A couple of days ago Betsson AB, which runs several online poker sites including Betsson Poker, has announced that they struck an acquisition deal with UAB Lošimų Strateginė Grupė, the company that owns TonyBet.

TonyBet was founded in 2009 by entrepreneur and poker player Antanas Guoga, better known in the community as trash talk master Tony G.

TonyBet is known as the first online poker room to offer real money Openface Chinese Poker (OFC) and is one of the biggest online gambling providers on the regulated Lithuanian market, generating €550,000 profit in the first half of 2016.

The deal will likely be finalized within 30 days with Betsson paying €4,000,000 in cash and an additional €2,000,000 if certain conditions are met.

Ulrik Bengtsson, the CEO of Betsson AB said the following about the deal:

"The acquisition is another important step in the Betsson Group's efforts to increase their presence on the regulated markets. We are in a strong position on all three legalized Baltic markets and want to strengthen our position in Europe with further acquisitions."

The current trend of mergers and acquisitions in the online gambling market shows no slowing down. Smaller providers can't sustain themselves and bigger companies are looking to expand their customer base which results in the creation of mammoth companies which also have strong casino and sportsbetting offerings.

Last October, Partypoker has implemented several changes aimed at making games more fair for their players.

The room removed table selection for cash games, players were randomly seated at the tables after they selected their preferred stakes and they were only able to see their opponents names for the first hand at the table.

This October the room will follow through with additional changes, including anonymous cash game hand histories and a ban on seating scripts.


Anonymous hand histories, seating scripts, nickname change

Players will still be able to download their hand histories but they will not include the names of the opponents. The player's own nickname will be displayed but opponents will be called Player 1, Player 2, Player 3 etc.

Players will be able to see all statistics, the number of hands they played against a certain player and the results against that player, but they won't see the nickname belonging to the hands.

According to Partypoker leader Tom Waters the introduction of anonymous hand histories will stop data mining and is in the long term interest of both professional and recreational players.

The room has also changed their Terms & Conditions regarding seating scripts. Players who are found to be using one of these tools will receive a warning for their first offense and will be permanently banned from the room for their second offense.

In 2017 the room will make a small cut to rakeback returns and use the money to give free cash bonuses to losing players.

As we have previously reported, Unibet Poker's new software Unibet 2.0 will be fully released this year.
