Suppose there's not much point following this thread, they'd have expected a negative reaction from 2+2 so doubtful they'll participate in any discussion.

Every decision Stars make now is focussed on (short term) profits. That's not uncommon in business, it's not what made Stars successful though. Monopolies don't last forever, especially when those on top forget how they got there.

Dear Pokerstars staff, could you please rehost that corporate blog page onto the Russian site (in English at first if the translation into Russian is not ready yet) and post a link here?

Also,

1. Could you clarify if there will be reimbursements for unused Quarterly Freeroll tickets earned via Gold/Platinumstar satellites (if anyone has more than one such ticket now)?

2. Will there be any additional promotions (or freeroll prize pool increases) specific to Gold/Platinumstars in Nov-Dec 2015 to compensate for the lost option of satelliting into the would-be Feb 2016 Quarterly Freeroll, which was a substantial part of the overall value of the Goldstar status?

This part confuses me a little. Wasn't part of the deal in going for SNE in 2015 that the player would receive certain benefits the following year (totaling in excess of 45%)?

Hello Matthew,

Is it possible to know if those changes are for PS.FR as well ? For current French Supernova Elite, is it also 45% Rakeback ?
I will highly appreciate if we can get an answer about that because we don't get any answer in France.

Thanks,

J. Misugi.

I understand this model working better for a site with less traffic but I don't see how you believe you will make more profit with those changes.

The high volume players aiming for sne or for 400k+ vpps at a breakeven winrate will now just bumhunt and play 1/5 the volume at a bigger winrate.

There are some good parts though:

I do like that you plan on restricting third party tools which cross a certain line.

I also like that you will invest more into attracting new players. Those "overpaid pros" are actually good for the games, they bring in new recreational players.

The changes will result in improved rewards for the vast majority of players. Approximately two percent of players - including our highest volume and high stakes players - will have significantly reduced rewards.
Hi Matthew

1) How much of the total rake is these 2% of players creating?
2) In total raw dollars, how much are you taking away in rewards for any player that will get it worse?
3) In raw dollars how much better will the rewards in total raw dollars numbers be for the 'majority' of players.

If you want to argue this is not a money grap can you please show us how this is done?

But how many of these Chrome Star players ever cash out? That's the real question. If they don't ever cash out you can give them a 25% increase but in the end the money will still end up in Stars's pockets.

I think it's the opposite: smaller sites need to reward volume because growth of traffic is important to them, whereas Pokerstars are the market leader (even a monopolist in some game formats) and are in a position to set a pricing that maximises their profit.

I don't expect Stars to give almost free dozens of dollars (€50-70 worth of tickets, I reckon) per person weekly to recreationals like some smaller sites (e.g. Coral on the iPoker network) do.

I think I can pretty much cover my life expenses (in Russia / Belarus / South Asia / Latin America, i.e. $300-400 a month incl. rent) by solely the freebies that various networks throw at me.

"We are introducing these changes to move towards a more balanced long-term poker economy and to return the game back to one that rewards skill via winning at the tables rather than playing primarily for volume."

So you are lowering rake then to compensate? No, I guess you aren't.

Almost all of this would be reasonable if it was paired with a rake decrease across the board. Without that, it's a straight money grab and does nothing to further the poker ecosystem longevity. It's not even going towards the lower VIP tiers. 10% for Chrome, what a joke.

FYP SBR was good (at least not that bad) for some of iPoker's games like Twister, in my impression, now Stars have played back in this game of 'ping-pong' (with regs being 'the ball') and are to remove the market arbitrage (make their field less tough and fields of other networks tougher).

VPPs will not be earned in high-stakes cash games. High-stakes cash games include pot-limit and no-limit games with blinds of $5-$10 or higher, 8-game $10-$20 or higher, and other limit games with blinds of $10-$15 or higher (limit hold’em of stakes $15-$30 and higher).

Guys, I have to ask about it because it seems unreal for me but... Does it mean there will be no rakeback for highstakes players? o0
