Blizzard now has this option of World of Warcraft players. Here is a link to their
FAQ about it. Blizzard is charging 6 euros for this and it is optional. BTW: the link to the FAQ seems to be slashdotted right now. And no, I don't play this game so I don't know why it is important to have this extra level of security on a game where no real-world money is involved. I can see why guys who have played 100s or 1000s or hours would be willing to spend $8 to secure their game.
My former employer used this sort of device to allow remote access to the corporate network. That company has a pretty clueless IT department and I was expecting a fiasco. It actually went very well. I used it to connect to the network hundreds of times from all over the world without a problem--every now and then I would have to try twice to get logged in.
For something like $8 this should be a no brainer for Stars. I would certainly pay that for the extra security. They could also allow buying the darn things with FPP, or give them away free when you reach a certain level of supernovaness.
