If you knew how cheap it is to implement, you would go on tilt.

It's beyond absurd that any account with more than 5k (with reasonable activity) doesn't get this service for free.

I work for the leading provider of security tokens.

In reasonable quantities (ie, 10k+) the cost to end users should be no more than $25 unless the site wants to profit. Thus, anyone should be able to afford this who wants it. It is, as many have said in this thread, a no-brainer for anyone who plays higher than .50c.

There are also many other options for the device that provides the single use code, including software that runs on mobile phones, software toolbars, and on-demand options like an SMS to a registered phone.

The software back-end is extremely low maintenance. Even the largest sites do not have dedicated staff to run it. It would not be a resource issue for any competent IT shop to install, integrate, or run.

There are options for self-service to deal with situations when you don't have the device. For example, you can send an SMS to a registered phone, as well as several others that involve challenge questions. This can significantly reduce customer service burden, an issue some have raised. Also, customer service calls about lost passwords tend to go down. (We all use strong passwords, change passwords often and do not store them in the client logon, right?)

In short, there is no reason for the sites not to implement this technology. Given the demand seen here already, most could probably run it as a profit center.

I vote YES. In fact, I have been asking for this for years. But for some reason, most sites still have the account login, and screen name to be the same!?! Unfotunately for online poker, we are still in the stone age when it comes to security.

If Blizzard can do this for World of Warcraft accounts, how can poker sites not implement this with thousands and thousands of dollars worth of cold hard cash at stake?

Also, I am willing to pay for this feature, as I'm sure anyone who cares enough about their account security is as well. I'd prefer to have a method (such as X hands per month -- maybe gold star) where my monthly fee would be refunded to me, but I am willing to pay a monthly fee for this.

This.

Though all the crap the US gov't is doing (just seized bodog $?), is just as worrisome to me, and is preventing me from keeping large amounts of $ online and from moving up like I know I should.

this would obviously be amazing. i also cant believe how login is same as pokertable screenname. how does this security token work. is it always a hardware device? usb device? what if you want to play on a different computer occasionally?

It is a stand-alone token, about the size of a USB drive, but does not connect to your computer. It has 6 random digits flashing at any time, and the numbers change approximately every 30 seconds.

When you log into your account, you also need to type in the 6 digits that are currently displayed on your security token in addition to your user name and password to gain access to your account. Most companies that offer VPN access to their employees require their employees to have one of these to work remotely. World of Warcraft even offers these to gamers who don't want their accounts to be hacked. This feature renders keyloggers (and anyone without physical access to your secureid) practically useless.

It is scheduled for implementation over the next couple of months, but it's a very big, difficult job, so thanks for your patience.
