Playing in Afghanistan Playing in Afghanistan

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked before.

I'm a UK soldier serving in Afghanistan and am trying to play on FTP. I emailed support before I left to ask if it is okay to play whilst serving in Afghanistan and got a pretty shockingly confusing message which didn't really answer any questions I had.

My question is, are there any UK guys here who have played whilst in Afghanistan? The basic wifi doesn't allow the connection so I paid for the 'better' wifi which did allow connection but then FTP said I was in the USA and thus couldn't play...

What are the rules on VPN's/Virtual networks or is this a shady area?

Any support will be greatly received.

Thanks!

Serious question, how are you going to cope when your connection is cut off when an Op Minimise starts as you're at a critical moment in one of your games?

I play cash so shouldn't be affected as much.

Have you played out here?

Cash makes it more unlikely to be affected, but still something to consider. I'm civvy, but I have both family and friends who've been out there, and over the years had more than one phone call go down because of it.

VPNs are considered shady round here; the general consensus is that using one tends to arouse the suspicion of the security department, who will wonder why you're trying to conceal your location.

As for why you might be flagging as USA — this is just my guess, and I'm assuming you're in Bastion — it might be because of the proximity of the American base, and they are ring-fencing that whole area to avoid falling foul of their agreement with the DOJ not to service the US market.
