Why does stars suggest not using check cashing? Why does stars suggest not using check cashing?

Saw on the stars website that they don't want you to bring their checks to a check cashing establishment. Does anyone know why? Are there consequences to me if I do? I have a friend who owns one of those places and don't want him to get in any trouble so it would be great if someone could enlighten me.

If you deposit the check into your bank account and it bounces, you will get an angry letter and maybe have to pay a small fee.

If you use a check cashing place and the check bounces, you will get a visit from the police and possibly arrested.

Is this true???

I am not being sarcastic, I have never heard anything about the police but wouldn't be surprised knowing our tax hungry govt.

It has nothing to do with taxes or the feds. The cops are called because a check cashing place has no way of getting their money back like a bank does. Passing a bad check is a crime, but you can probably straighten everything out without getting arrested (unless you have a bad attitude).

Thanks for the info man, are you pretty confident that thats the reason why? Also, if the check bounces, is stars good about putting it back in your account?

Well I don't have much experience because only suckers use check cashing places, but it's probably the same as a pawnshop. Fingerprint and ID.

I'm confident that's the reason why YOU shouldn't use a check cashing place. Only Stars knows what their reason is. As for your last question, I don't know. I've never had a poker check bounce.

Pretty sure when there was the big problem last June someone from a check cashing business came on here asking questions because SOP was to press charges for bad checks.

Well, since your friend owns a check cashing place I wouldn't think you would get in trouble unless you tried to stiff him which would mean he really wasn't your friend. I am good friends with a manager of one of these places and what they do his send you a letter that the check bounced. If you do not contact them within a certain time they will call the cops and press charges for check fraud or whatever the charge is. They are not nice if the 'bad check' is not made good.
