I’m Canadian and I hope in never happens. Though online poker was legal in the states and then it became illegal and I don’t think people knew it was coming until it was too late. What is the chance the same thing happens up here if ever?

Seriously though, I'm not sure what kind of answer you're hoping for; no one really knows. Poker has never been ruled illegal in the US, although the UIGEA made things quite difficult and caused a lot of sites to pull out of the US. When that happened, and some sites like Neteller pulled out of Canada, there was a lot more concern, but seeing as that was 7 years ago and there hasn't been even a hint of anything similar happening here, I don't think anyone's all that worried now.

Our political system is radically different than it is in the US, so I don't think there's much chance that legislation would happen as a complete surprise here. The most likely post-UIGEA time for this to have happened probably would've been when the provinces started online poker sites, but it's been a few years since that happened as well now.

When Ontario opens up shop they might ban offshore sites. Paul Godfrey being fired as Chairman of the OLG and his entire senior level of the OLG resigning in protest perhaps was due to this very issue. Hard to say.

Wait, Ontario still isn't offering online poker? I thought that was supposed to happen a year or two ago.

And if their plan is to still block all out-of-province (or out-of-country) poker sites, as it was originally planned, I hope the OLG never offers online poker.

Don't forget the 13% rake they want to offer to match the tax rate.
