Unibet had a site wide software crash and have screwed me in a massive spot Unibet had a site wide software crash and have screwed me in a massive spot

On 1st August 2021 I played the 250 Euro BI, 40K GTD 'Supermoon' KO MTT on Unibet. This is their flagship tournament and I believe it is the largest tournament they will run in August. I finished D1 as the chipleader, 1st of 11 left of 176 entries.

Between D1 and D2 there was a technical issue with Unibet (server crash or something) and the tournament resumed on 2nd August displaying everyone’s bounty as the starting bounty. This is clearly a disaster as some guys have a 100 euro bounty and some guys have a 1k euro bounty and we had no clue who had what bounty. After a blind level my table closes with no explanation. I’m not sure whats going on (at the time I wonder if the issue is my connection) and I phone Unibet support for 10 minutes who have no clue whats going on. After a while I find one of Unibet’s sponsored streamers who was also in the tournament, who has also seen his table stop and says that its been closed.

Since then they made partial payouts to me on 2nd August and 3rd August (4 separate small payments in total). Their own official thread on the Unibet Community was updated multiple times because they kept incorrectly calculating the payouts.

They have now paid me out chipchop for the payouts from 11 left (which is their official policy in situations like this), plus a refund of the rake. This seems somewhat reasonable.

They have also decided to pay everyone out their own bounty as it was at the end of D1 (before the software failed). This does not seem reasonable.

Paying out every player their own bounty is going to massively favour shorter stacks, especially those with larger bounties. The chipleader is disproportionately likely to stack other players, thus winning their bounty. They are also disproportionately likely to win the entire tournament and win their own bounty. Paying everyone their own bounty does not take this into account. The current payout means I am paid less in bounties than Flogge who had 15% of my chip stack but a very marginally larger bounty. Paying out individual bounties is a massive transfer of EV from the larger stacks to the smaller stacks. To illustrate my point: Imagine the tournament is down to heads up and one player has 99% of chips in play and a 1k bounty, the other has 1% of chips in play and a 5k bounty. There is a technical error and the tournament is cancelled. It would be absurd for the player with 1% of chips to receive their 5k bounty, when it is incredibly unlikely that they win the tournament. They should be getting 60 Euros for the bounty value, not 5000 Euros. The benefit of having a large bounty with 11 left is not to win your own bounty, it is that you have already won a significant amount of other people's bounties. As the person with the most chips in play, it was far more likely I win not only my own bounty, but other bounties along the way. Whereas for the shorter stacks, not only are they unlikely to win any other bounties, they are also extremely unlikely to win their own.

I messaged their poker representative on the unibet community who simply told me that the policy is to pay everyone out their own bounty. Clearly the shortstacked players wont complain about this as they are massively benefiting from it. As chipleader I am the one losing out here.

I am not a MTT KO maths wizard but it seems obvious that I was underpaid here by quite a lot, due to a Unibet technical failure compounded by an absurd bounty payout decision.

If anyone can run the numbers on this and show what we should actually be paid for the bounties, please comment so I can work out what would be a reasonable payout.

Link to their payouts below based on stacks at end of D1, I am 'NotAPlanet2' and am chipleading.

I tried to resolve this by direct messaging Unibet's poker representative but now the only option is to post here and try and get the attention of one of their sponsored pros or someone higher up at the company who can fix this.

If anyone has any advice or useful contacts to fix this LMK.

I believe most sites policy is to refund you your own bounty.

While your arguments are valid, that policy seems clearly stated and consistent with industry standard.

Your argument that cancellations favour short stacks is fine, but they also favour weak players, players in BB, etc.

A consistent and unbiased rule that’s easy to understand … seems fine.

Is there no calculator that can work out fair bounties?

Fate, the internet, circumstances, the nature of the universe itself, in fact nothing less than the general cussedness of life, they have all conspired to rob you, OP. Rob you of what is rightfully yours.

Unfortunately for you, Unibet's refund policy is both fair and reasonable, which means that once again the general cussedness of life has bad-beat you, literally taking what is yours and giving it to someone else while leaving you with no recourse.

I would suggest that you should think deeply on what you may have done to make the general cussedness of life want to hurt you, and try to figure out how to make things right before the general cussedness of life takes even more drastic actions against you.

If you were 11 of 11 this thread would not be here. You’d be thrilled that you got off so good. Plus you have zero clue of what place you’d finish in.

Moral of story, you’ll be ok
