This is the biggest issue I have with nl cash games. I am a losing player at nl...not a huge hand sample, but big enough that without some huge improvement in my game I feel that I will continue to lose at the 1-2 level. Whenever i flop a monster, if i bet out the guy folds and if i try to slowplay the guy either gives me no action later on or I get sucked out on. What should i generally do if I'm out of position? Or if I have position and it's checked to me....both cases with just 1 opponent and the pot was raised by the player with position. Thanks in advance

Sect, if you have a monster there are a number of ways to play it. You can flat call or raise him. Depends on villain and what you think he will do next. If the board is very drawy (is that a word?) then you may want to raise more. Just don't keep seeing monsters. Sometimes you will get outdrawn and that's normal but don't join the rigtards of thinking the site has it in for you. As long as you are getting the villain to bet incorrectly you will be fine long term (as long as you follow decent BRM).

This could be for a couple of reasons...

Are you passive, not a dig because it matters...
I get paid on my hands because I'm aggressive if I were passive people would fold most anytime I bet.

It's okay not to have your monster paid at that level 1/2 they are generally not paying off monsters but giving them free cards is bad.

Thanks for the advice....if there's a draw i don't slow play it....either i raise if with position or checkraise/bet if first to act. Another issue is I play too many hands and in poor position...so often I'm the guy who acts first. I think if i play tighter I'll be the guy with position which gives me safer/better options. I don't play too much nl...I'm mainly a low stakes limit grinder, but if I wanted a change for a bit to NL what books would you guys recommend?

Yes i would say I'm passive...and that is a good point why I'm not getting paid off ever.

I've learned NOT to slow play on Stars because SO many times I've flopped monsters only to lose to running cards that make someone's straight or flush.

Even then, I've lost WAY more than I've won when flopping a straight. It's come to the point when I flop a straight, I just cringe because I know my $$$ is immediately going into the pot with the assumption that the board will pair and fill up my villian.

Bottom line, if I make a good hand, I bet it out aggressively. I'd rather win a little than lose a lot.

As with just about every poker problem, it depends on the opponent

I love the idea that you should slowplay live but not online. Slowplaying alot is bad anywhere but you guys really are confused about poker.

This is why you don't slowplay online, villian turns the nut flush giving me two pair, I check since i don't have a diamond and river the boat, stacking ensues.

why is it so hard to just admit the 2 are slightly different games? I'm not sitting here saying "wahhh, bad beat, bad beat, best hand, wahhh" even the most adamant of internet players must admit live games arent the same. they just arent. i really dont care what explanation you have.

They are different. Players live tend to be more loose/passive as a whole. To put it bluntly, most live players suck and are horrible calling stations. This would make slow playing LIVE more of an error than doing it online in theory, generally speaking. As I said, you are really confused about poker. Your whole logic here is bass ackwards. I realize you dont care what explanation I have but maybe someone that thinks might care.

I dont slowplay much but I do a lot of delayed cbets with marginal hands and/or bad boards to cbet flops.
