Are you going to call them, or shall I?

The clock is ticking.
I assume you're not seriously going to contact Homeland Security about this. However, I would tread carefully if you do plan to contact any gov agencies. I'm not sure it's in the poker communities best interest to raise awareness about Merge to the feds. Especially if you start by saying "OP had $8k stolen from him on a poker site"

I do truly applaud your efforts here though. Keep up the good work!

lol @ assuming they don't actually know about Merge. Although I'll agree with incompetency of government agencies, I find it very hard to believe they are unaware of the sites that still operate in the US

I never said this would be the first time they heard of Merge. I said bringing stories to them about people being stolen from would be a bad idea. This instance alone wouldn't necessarily warrant an investigation on Merge, but it's just adding fuel to the fire.

Look at the previous busts, and how the gov has presented it as "A victory againt those crooked poker sites who will steal your money". Coming forward about a person being robbed on a site (even though it wasn't the sites fault) would be a perfect opportunity for them to rush in and look like heros in their own mind.

I think there is a very slim chance a law enforcement agency could do anything about this anyway. What would be presented as evidence? 2+2 PMs and some Merge transfer histories? Why rock the boat when they likely won't be able to assist in this situation?

Again, i'm not saying anything negative about Clamper, and I also really hope that OP is paid back in full.

I'd prefer that the matter is dealt with locally.

An email was sent to the suspect's city police and county sheriff. If I don't get an adequate reply from them, I'm considering sending a copy to his county's district attorney.

Homeland Security was involved in the suspect's previous arrest. My guess is that this new matter isn't in their purview, but I could be 100% wrong on that. Either way, I don't see an need to inform them.

The scam alleged on 2+2 occurred within the USA, but across state lines, so the FBI may have interest. No doubt the FBI already has their sights sets on Merge. It's plausible that a quick phone call or email to the right person will add fuel the ongoing ****storm we current live under, but it's unlikely I'll notify them unless I see the suspect involved in other interstate offences.

Re: Scammed by Hambone4k?

dint read thru all 6 pages, but im sure someone has said this..

i'd say theres a much better chance "Hambone" was looking for a freeroll, and wasnt going to send you a BoA wire. He was going to take your money to play high stakes cash. if he crushed it, he woudl come back to you saying he cannot do a wire for some "unforeseen reason" then would ship the 8k back to you and play with teh profits IMO

I was browsing thru some of the marketplace threads last night and I saw a couple of trades he had made for 500 with a 1 s h a, but he was sending first, to get money onto the site.

What amazes me the most about some of these scammers is how long they wait before they take action. I mean some of them stay on these forums for months before they strike. Of course you have the ones who go into action in no time. What sick people.

Some of them probably dont plan on it in the beginning, but maybe they hit a sick downswing or monkeytilt their roll off and then when the opportunity arises they just go for it. Some of them probably are degens who plan on running it up and paying back but that usually never happens, especially if they start playing higher trying to chase.

In hindsight, him saying he wouldn't pay more than a certain amount, OP appears to have agreed to that amount and then says he will pay more to get the full 8k could be a sign he was willing to accept whatever was brought up just to get the money since he had no plans fullfilling his end anyway.

In the other thread, the only trade anyone mentioned was HIM sending first so there isn't much of a reference there.

Re: Scammed by Hambone4k?

That 9k downswing since this started just STINKS of Hambone praying he runs like God to be able to pay his end. He can't stick to the story of being hacked, security already verified it's his IP.

In before, sorry guys I didn't have internet for the last week, it's all a misunderstanding...(or mugshot, hoping for mugshot!)

Just because he haggled over a price doesn't mean he planned on honoring his end. That was just to put his guard down, the mentioning references were as well. Read the AIM convo, it plays out like Keyser Soze.
