PokerStars decided to force a winner in each heads up match by having someone log into an account and win each stalled heads up match.

At 12:25:57 AM, a PokerStars staff member reset your account password, and at 12:26:22 AM, a PokerStars staff member logged into your account. Since the other player was sitting out, the PokerStars staff member merely raised the preflop bet and won the blinds. The PokerStars staff member logged out at 12:27:21 AM.
Doesnt sound like someone special to me.

As someone who works in the IT industry I can tell you that this is so completely standard.

Even if it's the delivery guy could reset your password... I dont really see the problem.

What could happen? He would have to reset your password.
Then lose your money/transfer it/call his wife to tell her he is playing with Moneymaker's account and now people think Moneymaker is good/whatever.

Then, if he did log onto your account, you will try to log and password wont be correct, so you would email PS. They will check your account, see that someone change the password at 12:34:56am, would say "omg, the delivery guy fraud us! He is fired as a delivery man, but here is another pro in our team" and they would give your money back.

Dont you think any changes in a player database leave like... tons of trace... so if there is any problem, they know exactly who make the change, the exact time of that change, and that it would be really easy to see there was a fraud and the player would be compensate?

The fact that they had to RESET the password to be able to log is exactly to make sure there isnt any people being able to see your password and log on your account. The fact they couldnt change the password to the older one after they made the change... well... anyway, you see my point?

For those who say that they should cancel the tournament: lol! Yeah, round 1 is over and now ladies and gentleman, go back home and we will start over tomorrow.
About "let's make the blind increase until they are the size of a stack". yeah! Let's make all the others players wait 5 hours watching two players posting blind and folding.

Come on guys, have a little bit of logic.

The way PokerStars handle this is REALLY professionnal; there was a mistake, they did their best in the best interest of everyone and it reassure me about the security of PokerStars to know that they couldnt do anything but RESET the password to be able to log in and were NOT able to put back the old password....
Amen!

UB/AP have a phone number, I think all major sites should have it. Or at least a chat option.

Wouldn't the blinds get so big that the sb would eventually be bigger than the starting stack and finish the round?
also they should refund all buyins and also give double buyins back to the round one winners so they get their equity back and pay for this out of their own pockets and they should do this everytime two players register and can't be bothered to play

that would own

they could do that, or maybe they could make sure the 250 hand rule is actually implemented.

and summary execution for all stars employees guilty of human error

anyone have a solution that works when the error has actually happened?

i didn't read all the replies, but doesn't seem like much sympathy for the entire field that lost four hours of their lives on this op player as it is

The fact they had to do that and could NOT just push a button and eliminate a player or make a player sit in is really a good thing.
Of course they can reset your password, as you can ask for it yoursel if you forget it....

No it's not. This is shocking from Stars. It might have been the only solution to their problem at the time, but it shouldn't be standard practice to do this.

A bank is regulated by LAWs *******. The scary thing is there is nothing any of you can do about it. It shows you a side of their "capabilities" that you simply have no control over, whether you like it or not. Kinda like a dictatorship? Poker sites are obviously not democratic.
I will say that the only positive is it happened at pokerstars... They were trying to do a "good" thing....

Strange situation indeed.

Pokerstars is constrained within the supply/demand conditions of the industry, and as such they cannot simply do whatever they like without consequence in terms of maintaining their position in the market.

Yes, this situation is a bit unsettling, but the threat of rogue employees going nuts with people's poker accounts is not that realistic at a company like Pokerstars. Those people would face criminal charges and have a huge, wealthy company making sure everything was made right if it happened.

Now, do I think that threat does not exist everywhere? Hardly, and that is why I and others tend to be baffled when people start posts about how they lost their 40k bankroll at some unknown site that had 3 players. The risk that money would never return was hardly zero.

Stars is pretty open about their screw ups which will happen, and they generally compensate those impacted. Not really sure what else people can expect here - all sites will have access to player accounts, I assumed everyone realized that.

I never heard of a site playing poker on their customers accounts. Most sites dont even allow their employees to have an account on the site they work for. I guess the same ruling is valid for pokerstars. So I was wondering how many gaming laws Pokerstars violated when that employee started playing hands for a customer.
And why pokerstars would break the integrity of their customers, just to set things right in a freeroll is beyond me.

Anyone who's surprised that Stars can log onto your account probably thinks you can watch porn at work without being caught.

If Stars had the ability to just press a button and boot people from a tournament, I'd imagine many people would be appalled just the same.
