Are they? I haven't really followed the DoN debacle too closely, but didn't they pay out a ****load of money? Seems like the easiest solution is to kill the DoNs rather than hire a boatload of security to police the games.

At least they announced it one week prior to the change ... lol

They changed the very popular Hyper-Turbos without any prior warning - I still can't get over it ...

Not that as well!

Bad decision ...

They changed a straight-forward, fish-enticing format into a weird debacle of percentage payouts, while also increasing the rake?

The beauty of these was the simplicity, while still giving edges to thinking players. If you want to accumulate chips and win all the monies shouldn't you just play 9 man sngs?

But they aren't killing the DON's at all. They're just transferring them to a slightly different format with equal opportunity for collusion, increasing rake and giving good players less of an edge.

Damnit!! This was the only game I played, and never busted my roll. Actually I had 12% roi after about 800 games. I wanted to play them and move up this year. I'll give a try to fifty50 but I doubt it will be as profitable as the dons, as I rarely finish the game over 3000 chips.

Is poker stars french?

Cause this is about as clear act of surrender the company can do.
We are incapable of running this part of our business so we quit.

As for fifties, I dont know why anyone would bother as long as you have decent ROI in 9 mans.
Not feeling any personal loss here, have not been playing Stars DON for quite a while now, but what I do find on Ongame is DONs are usually the last STTs apart from 6 man low buy ins to stop filling up in the off hours. So it seems to me killing those means you will lose certain type of player you will never get back. Depositing type.

Just sayin.

Not everybody on stars is from USA, those that have no problems depositing would like a reload bonus.

I'm a DON grinder and will leave stars for iPoker when they cease to run.

I just don't feel Fifty50s have a sufficient edge for a grinder and ROIs will most likely never be close to DONs.

this

Cash players ought to get behind this too. You really don't want even more multitabling nits in your games. Cue parade of breakeven lagfish who think they can "exploit" MT nits.

Steve can you please give more specific information about rake changes? what type of SNGs will this concern exactly? Since I will be learning new game I'd like to know which game should I focus on.

No, cake is the only network to my knowledge that is open to US players and runs DONs. Their traffic is pretty low though.

I think it's a shame that stars offers a format without a real edge which makes it only suitable for casual players.

What's up with all the whining? If a new game comes out it means you have to learn it, but so does the fish. Assuming you are smarter and a better poker player than the fish you will have an edge and hopefully profit. I would be happy if stars removed and added new types of SNGs more often.

And the people saying Fifty50s invite collusion need to look up a definition of the word. Keeping the bubble alive has been a valid tournament structure long before DoNs ever existed. Fifty50s are a much better and cleaner game than DoNs and thats probably why I haven't seen any Chinese playing them yet.

That being said, the rake is too high and should be lowered to the level of DoNs or even lower.

Mixed feelings about this... was planning to put in something like 40k+ games of DoNs this year. Got into a car wreck, come back to the tables and find my normal tournaments about to be gone... guess it's time to transition, can't stop the tide, oh well.

I'll miss you DoNs.

Way to take my statement totally out of context in order to support your desire for less cash game rake. You realize how the above makes zero sense right?

I'm gonna go ahead and assume you know nothing about sngs and how they've changed in the past two years. This thread is about sngs and sng rake, take it elsewhere.

Kudos to Stars here. This shows their willingness to become more of a players site? Weird, gotta give you guys credit for thinking about and making change(s) that are good for the overall health the game here.

Very encouraging and great to see. On the surface this sure looks like a WD Stars, so..WD Stars.

I had to register an account here to voice my disgust at this decision.

Sure, the DoN format got a bad rep for being used by a collusion ring. But that doesn't mean Stars have to get rid of them for good. As with any new format of SNG game, they are going to be targeted by dodgy players to get an edge. Just because the same indicators aren't there as standard SNG payout games, it doesn't mean you can't police them properly. If Stars knew what kind of strange plays they were looking for from the start, the could police DoNs properly. And the funny thing is, that now once the Chinese ring was found, they actually do know how to police them.

50/50 games are just another format that will get the same rigorous treatment from colluders/soft players as DoNs for an edge... and they're a long way from DoNs.

Disgusted!
