I want to hide my IP and use a different one from a different country when using pokerstars. I tried using one from a canadian university but it went dead when i logged in due to campus restrictions. Where can i find and purchase a good proxy to use with pokerstars, and how do i make it work?

Best thing you can do is rent a VPS, that means Virtual Private Server.

Ofcourse you can rent a VPN from StrongVPN.com or anohter one but mostly these vpn's/proxys are used by botters so you have a big chance to get your account locked before your even able to use it cause some botter is banned using the same IP.

When renting a VPS you have less chance that such thing would happen. It's even better to rent a dedicated server with a private IP, but the BEST solution would be to know somebody from outside the US and make a VPN connection to his home internet connection. Thats the only 100% safe way to not get a 2nd hand flagged IP.

Once you establish this VPN connection it's also very important to setup your firewall to disallow Pokerstars to use your home IP. Imagine your friends internet connection drops then Pokerstars will try to re establish a connection with your own IP, which again might get you banned/locked.

Also keep in mind that VPN/different IP isn't sufficient, you will also need to fake a utility bill, or have a real utility bill from a foreign country on your name to proof that your not in the US. I even heard that Pokerstars wan't some phone verification from a fixed foreign phoneline so keep that in mind as well.

Again: it's very important to setup your firewall to block Pokerstars access to your real IP, otherwise all effort is done for nothing.

Google is your friend of how to setup a VPN connection between 2 computers.

Another option (worse option but pretty safe) is to rent a dedicated server and play from that server using remote desktop, it's an option but not recommendable as there will be a lot of "lag" if your home internet connection isn't super fast
