Hi Guys,

My name is Vijay, I am from Ontario and am new to the forums. I am migrating to India (Bangalore) within the next few months.

The purpose of this thread is to basically educate myself on the laws and regulations of poker (both live and online but mainly online) in India. I am an avid player online and want to know if there will be anything which will hinder with me playing once I move. It is legal right? I got told from a family member briefly something about a new regulation which has just implemented in India with regards to online gaming but he didn't really know much.

Any information would be much appreciated, thanks guys.

I live in Bangladesh and the situation here is pretty similar to India. Gambling is illegal but there are no laws with regard to online gambling or gaming so it basically means its a grey area - and also I can't get direct withdrawals into my Bangladeshi bank accounts (just use your canadian bank to get wthdrawals).

But there are casinos in India (in Goa for example) and they do have poker rooms but I've never been there, there's some Indian poker forum pokerguru or something - google it and you'll prob get more info.

Just wanting to know about the legality of actually playing when in the country, do deposits actually work when using an Indian bank account?

Yeah I will use my Canadian banks account for sure. My main concern is just about actually being able to play when I move to India. I kind of assumed it would be a grey area just becuase nobody seems to know a great deal about it.

I assume you use third party sites such as netella to transfer money then?

I will be very intrigued to check out the live scene in India that's for sure. I can only assume the games will be ridiculously soft seeing as poker hasn't properly taken off there yet.

Appreciate the reply.

Not many on the sites I use (Pstars and Tilt), but I know of a few.

Yeah I was curious about this also. I have some family in India who want to get into the game so would be good to know a bit more about the laws and regulations.

Deposits prob. wont work since gambling is illegal everywhere except Goa and 1 other state I think - just use a foreign cc/bank acct or whatever.

I actually use a foreign bank account to get withdrawals - even mb restricts me from depositing to online sites (because I have a Bangladeshi account)

Also, playing shouldnt be a problem since I've played online while visiting India plenty of times and have seen several Indian players on tilt & ps.

Also, if you do find a soft live scene - pm me and I might fly over there sometime this summer since I'm like 30min-1hr away.
