But clearly scamming is gone rampant and has to be stopped. Like that dude just got screwed for $750 and we act like oh ok that sucks...lol ITS $750!...But since we see it all the time its nothing new. Thats a alot of $$ to me. That can happen to any of us.

Clearly theres really nothing we can do but IDK maybe if theres just 1 thing we can do to add a source of security and verification maybe it could cut the scams in half and thats really the outcome Im hoping for.

Also trying to make it so I can feel safer when swapping with people when I ahve to send 1st. I still always get nervous when sending 1st even to people who look legit bc you just never know. Ive seen the most legit members go to the dark side....Too tempting I guess....

Yes, this thread has been taken over for the last few days with a complicated group of scams (and it should be remembered that some money was recovered), but is the overall picture any worse now than it was a year or two ago? We go through rough patches where a new scheme works on a few people, and then it seems to get quiet again. It's not like anyone tracks (or even could do so accurately) scams vs. trading volume, but I'm far from convinced that it's any worse now than in the past.

Agree with this, and that we need to do whatever we can to combat scams.

I was a little flippant with my previous reply; of course I agree that improvements are always good. But here's the thing - anyone trading can implement most of those ideas all by themselves. If you're concerned about trading with someone, ask for one of the further verification methods you're suggesting.

This is something I have always advocated. It's even in the OP, in different words.

There are very few scams that couldn't have been prevented by people taking a little extra care over sending their money to internet strangers.

If this thread wasn't here, I'd bet a dollar that trading would go underground, and a lot more scams would be attempted.

I am going to unban royhobbs62, but he is being told that he is not allowed to trade for six months. If anyone receives a PM from him trying to buy or sell funds, please forward it to me and, upon confirmation of its veracity, he will be perma-banned. I believe his known poker SNs are: ACR poe99, True micha49, and BCP fearedbyall. If anyone knows of any others, please let us all know.

There is only so much that mods can do imo. If certain posters read the OP carefully (Clamper's trading guide is another great tool) and just went that extra little bit and did more research like I've said before (ask for references,check history,recent trades,SN checks etc.), ask questions, or just use basic common sense, a lot of these scams would of never happened or could of been prevented.

A lot of people are just lazy to go that route imo, and that is the biggest problem here.

Maybe implement a trader rating? Where it shows the number of completed trades you've done so its easier than going through hundreds of previous posts. Theres gotta be something we can add so there is more information/protection on each trader.

Also I really think we should do a phone verification thing. Or at least everyone adds there cell phone so its on file. Also a Facebook (Active account)

Scammers want to give out the least info out as possible so they leave no trail.....

I was gonna say 6 months is kinda stiff since he really did have a heart attack but he just blew it....

He made good so that says alot IMO. Alot of people would scam for ljust like $20 bucks lol but he made good on $250. I know he is a good dude and going through alot so I would guive him the benfit of the doubt and give him a pass.

But this was before the Roy meltdown lol.....

OK, well I went easy on Roy and only gave him 10 points for wishing death upon Mike Haven, let the profanity filter circumvention go, and just warned him for putting "Scammed by mike haven who is ilivonthedege as well." in his profile (and I saw later that he posted "Mike haven and chiefsfan and ilivonthedege are all the same person and I get the shaft." in the transfers thread).

Unfortunately, he decided to respond to that by acting like a 12 year old and posting spam in a bunch of IP threads, so I've given him 3 days off to cool down. If he steps out of line when he returns, he's done here.

royhobbs62 wrote a PM to me, (not sure if it was before, during or after his meltdown, which I've only just seen), asking to be banned permanently, so he has now left the building.

The main reason we insist on all poker SNs being given in every post is so that a simple "Search this Thread" will give a lot of info within seconds.

For instance, Search this Thread for your SN, crazyhippo, in the transfers thread yields 78 posts. It is very easy to scan-read the gist of those posts, and look deeper if necessary.

People should also spend a few more seconds searching the site; searching for usernames mentioned in posts; and, of course, Google for SNs and usernames.

I just found out that someone tried to access my account on Dec 28th..attempting to guess my password from like 8 different ip address..

Should I be concerned? I have a very strong password.

I have done many trades in the past and I am assuming that was the reason for attempted hacking.

Go to About The Forums and see my post there, it was a pretty wide spread attack. PM Mike Haven the IPs used so he can ban any associated accounts.

LOL, There's like a 1% chance Roy suffered a heart attack. Seems like he was buying time after busting the $250.
