This. You guys in the US need to fight. There are many countries in the world where on-line poker is not only accepted, but encouraged, in the sense of big sites being persuaded to move HQ operations there (think Isle of Man). On my TV I see many ads for poker sites, offering a responsible gateway into gaming, and depicting celebs and such, showing that they have the money to splash on marketing.

On-line poker is here to stay. The US administrations can only lose this battle. It's in all your interests to point this out. In my country we are treated like adults and we can game where we want.

Harry Reid is the senior United States Senator from Nevada as well as the U.S. Senate Majority Leader.

Oh, yeah, my mistake. Still that's a very powerful position. Bottom line I wouldn't be surprised if him and the casino industry of Nevada are behind all of this action from the federal prosecutors and the freezing of bank accounts of companies that process money for the poker sites. Somebody in the shadows is pulling the strings-- its all done in back rooms and then sprung on the players. That's why we have to support the PPA. You can contact your congressman through a PPA link.

They ought to just legalize it, regulate it, and sit back and collect all those taxes from it like they do with alcohol. I thought the Democrats were for the people and not special interests like the Republicans usually are.

Well, that used to be true. But (at least some of) the B&M casinos in Nevada are coming around to the belief that online gaming is compatible and synergisitc with B&M gaming (high time, I say). Furthermore, they are, indeed, hurting and want a piece of the online action.

I suspect that Reid is in a sticky situation - probably has some B&M casinos opposing online regulation and some backing it.

But the bottom line is that the PPA is the best shot we have and we should all be throwing our weight behind it. I know that some important people in this community have complaints about the PPA board of directors, etc. That's certainly something that can be discussed in the future. But this is not the time for internecine wars; the big bad wolf is a bunch of government lawyers in New York. Let's not lose focus on that. We were all asleep at the switch when Frist snuck the UIGEA through. We let that happen a second time - well, you know the old saying.

Send your money to the PPA and your letters and emails to Capitol Hill.

Regards, Lee

Maybe Im dumb but I can't figure out exactly where to go to donate money to the PPA. Can anyone give me a direct link to a cash donation page? All it says is that I can donate goods/services and I can't find cash listed as a good/service.

The website needs a number of improvements, signing up for a membership was non-trivial and I think I have signed up multiple times and the automated feedback form doesnt work right. Totally agree that the donation thing needs to be super, ultra, mega clear.

I wouldn't blame it on the government lawyers, I would assume they are just doing what the higher ups are telling them to do. This whole thing is on Obama's watch and he, Harry Reid, and the Democrats are ultimately responsible for this.

Actually federal judges are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate. A federal judge's term is for life.

From Wiki on Federal Judge

"Federal judges are judges appointed by a federal level of government as opposed to the state / provincial / local level."

Interesting artical from the Las Vegas Sun on the DOJ action

The U.S. attorney also sent a subpoena to Allied Wallet, another third-party payment processor, to appear before a grand jury in New York on June 18. The subpoena requested documents including correspondence, records of financial transactions and contracts between Allied Wallet and Internet gambling companies dating to 2001 as well as information on owners and employees.

Both documents cite alleged violations of Title 18, Section 1955, of the U.S. Code, which prohibits “illegal gambling businesses” operating in violation of state laws. The subpoena also cites Section 1956, which prohibits financial transactions with unlawfully obtained proceeds.

The feds reportedly seized or froze more than $30 million in online gambling funds at multiple banks doing business with major sites, including Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars.

Sorry if this was posted before, but I was reading and didn't see anything on it.

The article below says that the account seized was also dealing in online casino's: "The target instead appeared to be one specific instant echeck provider used by some major poker sites, including Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars, that also deals in online casino payment processing."

Does anybody know if this is true?? and by casino, do they mean gambling other than poker?? Because this would be good news wouldn't it? I read before that the DOJ went after sports books only in the past and not poker processors. So maybe that is the reason they went after this one, cuz it was also doing business with a casino? Or are they just calling Full Tilt and PokerStars a casino??

Also, wasn't UB involved in the seizure also?? Because they do allow blackjack on that site, so I was thinking that could be considered gambling and be part of why they decided to go after this processor. I don't remember anybody mentioning this, it seems important now that I think of it. Anybody wanna comment?

And no lots of people do not consider poker gambling :P

Ok donkey

This was posted way before and noone answered it....I never spammed i just brought up similar points in the pokerstars check thread. But since u have a stick up ur *** u have to follow all my posts and whine. Maybe u should stop spamming by ur ******ed posts. Yah all the articles say its DOJ vs Poker, that doesnt mean they got the right information....u notice the PPA is the only one talking about it?? Its perfectly logical that the only reason this seizure occured was becuz of casinos such as UB offering blackjack....but noone mentions it cuz there a bunch of idiots on this forum....and when new people try to post something good, idiots like u discredit it and act like A-holes forcing the smart people to leave these forums....Then it just leaves the A-holes like u to fill all the threads up with pointless petty arguing. Enjoy ur ****ty forum A-hole. Good job wreckin it, i wish they would ban tards like u.
