To me it's pretty obvious what happened. New management came in and first task was taking over day to day operations of the entire thing. Once they had everything else working properly they put their eyes on the poker software. They probably spent time trying to come up with plans to fix it, then realized an entire re-write was needed. If they ran it like any other software shop they had a team dedicated to the new client and a team dedicated to fixing the current. Writing a new poker client isn't a simple thing, so this likely took some time.
Purely speculation here, guessing that they wanted to hide wait lists in the new software, but wanted to see what the real life reaction would be to it first. So they put a team on adding that to the existing client as the last real change, wait a few months to gather data to see if it did what they wanted it to, and as soon as they got the answer they were looking for, they could proceed with the new client release.
Those expecting anything to be changed now with the current client are going to be disappointed.
On the other hand, since the new client is supposedly a ground up re-write, the bugs that people are dealing with now shouldn't be an issue. It's not that they will fix those bugs, it's new software so they won't exist.
