There were days I was surprised the day was already over it had gone so smoothly and others where every 1hr was like pulling teeth. Sometimes I had to meditate again every couple hours until the scenario I envisioned for myself set in as a reality in my mind.

One of my good friends calls this PVD, post-vacation depression, not sure if that's a real term or not. When you're meditating to feel enlightened from a retreat, of course you're going to leave out any negativity. PVD is the furthest thing from my mind when I'm creating a refreshing environment.

Good luck to you sir!
It's somewhat easy to relax, but actual mediation can be a challenge. So don't give up too easily when it doesn't work as well as you want at first. Try giving it a shot a few times a day for at least a week or two before considering giving up. Google some info about successfully meditating, it's amazingly powerful, and well worth it if you're willing to put in the time. And the better you get at it, the more you are likely to continue with it after seeing positive results.
