Re: Thinking about quitting online poker

So you've been playing online poker for 5 years and you allegedly think it's rigged? You've never heard of downswings or variance?

$100 to $10,000 in a week huh? You must have great bankroll management skills also...

Hi everyone. I'm relatively new to P2P. I have been playing poker for about 5 years now. The stakes I play ranges. When I took my game a little more seriously when I first began, I used to play anywhere from 10-20 to 30-60. These days, I play for pleasure. What I can say is, among all my friends, I am the best poker player. There have been occasions in the past (4 years ago), I managed to parlay $100 deposit into $10-15k over a course of a week, typically playing limit hold'em.

I rarely play hold'em anymore. I generally play seven card stud, razz or 2-7 triple draw low ball these days. One thing I've been noticing is, the beats I'm getting online, just seem so unlikely. For instance, I can be playing razz and have a 8423 draw with three cards to come in a three way action against a rough T9 draw or a runner runner draw. Rough T9 takes down the pot because I make 8's full of 4, runner runner runner for the most worthless hand in Razz. I can be playing 2-7, probably my strongest game, pat a smooth 87 or 86, drawing 1-2 on the first draw vs. weak 3 draw and get beat by something slightly better after the third draw. Or with stud for that matter, just incredible bad beats. Now, I know swings come with the game of poker, but I do play a lot of poker at brick and mortar casinos and noticed that I don't get nearly as many bad beats as I do in online poker.

It has actually occur to me that, although the games may not be rigged per se, there is something definetely wrong with how the cards are being dealt. I have probably played 10k hands in razz and stud online on full tilt and pokerstars and I noticed that when I play razz i get dealt monster stud hands like rolled up, suited AKQ, etc (non-playable hands for razz) and when I play stud I keep getting dealt monster Razz hands. I also play a lot at casinos, proably 2k hand this year and I have never noticed what I've been noticing online. I also notice that bad plays tend to get rewarded online more so than at brick and mortar casinos.

I was wondering if any of you feel the same way here? To be very honest, I'm thinking about quitting online poker. I just feel that something about online poker is just not right. Any one on P2P also feel that there is something strange about online poker. My theory is this. What if the card shuffling is rigged? Brick and mortar casinos have prop players they pay to get games going. How can anyone here rule out that some of the players online are not actually real players but bots controlled by the site to provide action for games that are going on. Maybe, when these bots are in a game, the odds are shifted slightly in their favor to win. It only takes 60/40 adjustment in odds to make it a completely losing proposition for real players. Just a thought because I really don't trust online poker these days.

FYI: I get bad beats at casinos too, but not as often as I do online. I understand it comes with the game, but when u are 70/30 favorite or better going into last card or last draw, you should not be sweating too often that you are going to lose. It happens, but not often.
you are delusional.

Pete Rose was a 30/70 dog every at bat for 24 years.

Yet he got 4,256 hits.

Baseball is rigged.

Re: Thinking about quitting online poker

I was once as dumb as OP was, so what I did was write down 2000 hands down onto paper. 2000 straight hands played I wrote onto paper and I ran the odds and granted that is a very small sample size of hands, the %'s were right and it was selective memory. Thank God no one had to tell me in a thread though how dumb my thinking was. It's not rigged, there's not something wrong with it, and if you keep playing it under the belief it may be you are incredibly stupid for doing so.

So how do you explain the fact that the sites that are open to the U.S. have more players now than they did right after the UIGEA was passed?

I do that too sometimes.
Only sometimes?

I do it every week.

Sometimes twice.

You can fill in the blanks for yourself...I'm sure there are plenty of threads that will cover this topic.
UIGEA was already passed it just hasn't been implemented and that isn't supposed to happen until late 2009 afaik. If it doesn't get overturned.

if online poker is not rigged why can i tell you what the turn and river will be with very abnormal frequency.I mean scary..I cant do it in the casino, but I have only been playing since I was 12 or 13 and at this time I'm 55.probably not enough time yet,and I only dealt 22 years.probably haven't seen enough hands yet...ITS RIGGED YOUNGSTERS..REMEMBER THIS WHEN IT FINALLY COMES OUT!! Let the states make it legal and tax it and regulate it in the U.S. and you wont believe the difference in the game you get..don't bother with your defense of online poker.I heard and read all the different explanations.Oh but I did see the tribe that regulates online poker on 60 minutes and I must say they were very impressive.LOL

hi there buddy, i did not changed anything. I said before, that olp can be rigged, and there is very little chance to prove it. Now, there are some stupid coments like that witch simply cant be defended becouse they are redicoulus. When someone will came here with any reasonable statment, i may defend it, becouse it may look reasonable to me. Thank you for understanging. Now a 55 year old guy, who says that he can predict turn and river cards does not give any credibility to me. I defended more than one poster here, and i will do so when they will come with a statement that cant be proved, or denied.

I'm already winning at 23bb/100 for my last 200k hands,
Do you mean poker is going to get even easier?

also i think we should make a bet about your ability yo predict turn and river cards. I'll bet up to 1k that you can't predict the turn and river successfully more than 3/10 times

This is probably a true statement and does not imply a rigged deal. There are several legit reasons this happens, which you can easily find with five minutes research. I'll give you a couple of the most obvious ones. 1) You see 2-3x the amount of hands online, so you see more beats, and selective memory is stronger in shorter time spans. 2) More aggressive play with weak hands and drawing hands happens online, due to anonymous play encouraging risk, lots of beginning players who don't know better, the ease of clicking a button instead of putting chips in live face-to-face, and fish who learned to play watching final tables on TV and thinking that style works in all situations. By definition, bad beats happen to the better player who puts his money in while ahead, not to the dumb player taking the long shots.

Wow,if you guys are half as good at playing as you are about jumping to conclusions you all would be rich! Lets start with Lilaznboi, predict 3 out of 10 for 1k,boy your a sport. What I was saying is that I can predict way more cards than I should be able to..And if any of you wizards who are running your mouths want to figure out the true odds of predicting a turn or river under any given situation lets talk. You guys are big hold em players so odds should be easy, for example if you give me 30 to 1 on a 35 to 1 shot you should take it all day right.Well Im in the chicagoland area so work up the figures and lets talk..This must be done at my house on my computer because I know what game I get online.WE will use poker stars...So all you guys saying my grammer is at a 4th grade level and avoiding the issue altogether come and take this dummies money.I also work at one of the local casinos here so we can even work out the details of the wager there...

Well, you see, some people do have sufficient intelligence to understand when they have got hold of the wrong end of the stick.

Evidently you are not one of them - yet.

But we can live in hope.

The problem is that you are a new poster (or a current rigtard with a new gimmick account).

It's very easy for someone who is completely unknown to offer ridiculous bets that everyone knows that he'll lose and then dissapear into the wood work if anyone takes him up on them.

They hope that by offering a bet to support some weird proposition it will strengthen their case.

Well, only for an utterly ******ed lame brain.

For the rest, it just makes them look like a complete buffoon whom it would be idiocy to do anything other than ignore.
