My View on the Pokerstars is Rigged argument

I was going to post this in the BBV thread "Pokerstars is RIGGED", but felt it didnt really have a place in what will quickly become a "Yes, it is" - "No, it isnt" - "You're a Nazi" flamefest.

There will always be people who say that Pokerstars is rigged, because there is absolutely no way anyone can get enough information to be sure otherwise.

You can say that the people who think Stars is rigged are biased and just guessing, well.. so are and so do you. A lot of the argument against the Stars being rigged is nothing more than faith or supposition.

The argument that Stars isnt rigged because they have more to lose than to gain is wrong headed. It relies on the possibility that Stars could be caught out. But the amount of information/data required for them to be caught is huge, and is certainly beyond the capabilities of people that would care to investigate it.

Absolute and UB are still in business. So even if Stars is caught, a simple mea cupla, with a faux apology, a sham investigation, and the assurance of things being fixed would mean they wouldnt lose too many customers anyway. Not when Full Tilt is also accused of being rigged.

That Stars dont have anything to gain is false too, given that they make money through rake. The most obvious point is that keeping poor players in the game means there are more games and more rake. They dont have to make these poor players win money, they just have to ensure that the poor players get a buzz from winning every now and then. If a player has consistently lost money, how hard would it be to let them suck out in a big pot every now and then?

There are any number of ways for Stars to rig the game to earn more money. You are only limited by your imagination.

The argument that "OP is running bad and that is why they think it is rigged" is laughable. OF COURSE OP IS RUNNING BAD! You dont care if the game is running crookedly in your favor, do you? The only people who will ever consider that Stars might be rigged are the people being hurt by it. This line of argument is ad hominem and usually when I see ad hominem arguments it makes the other side look good.

The argument that "humans have a natural tendency to find patterns, even when they arent there" is reliant on the starting position. Sure humans can find patterns, even when they arent there. But you know when else humans can find patterns? When they are there. So the argument of human tendency to see patterns only makes sense if your starting point is that there is no rigging, and any pattern recognition is spurious.

Oh and just quickly, the argument that it is impossible to prove that Stars isnt rigged because you cant prove a negative is merely semantics. You should be able to prove that the game at Stars is clean. Its a positive, prove it.

As I see it, because Stars has every incentive to rig their games, with very little chance of being caught, and even if they are caught, would suffer little penalty, means that, logically, they should be rigged.

Which raises the question, why doesnt everyone feel the same? Well, they take it on faith that they arent being cheated. This is actually a natural human tendency as well, and it is important to allow modern society to function.

But here is an important point, the anti-riggers didnt arrive at their position rationally, so no amount of rational argument will be able to shift them.

Not only that, because their position is shakey, they have to reinforce it with vehemence. Which is why, obviously, they berate and ridicule anyone that even vaguely implies that Stars is rigged.

wait, so you think the largest poker site in the world has nothing to loose if they get caught cheating?

not to mention a million other flaws in you argument, 1 being that the poker community actually does have enough data to refute pstars being rigged.

stoned or wut imo?

Not nothing to lose, but not as much as people think. The poker "community" may have a lot of data, but what would they be looking for?

Re: My View on the Pokerstars is Rigged argument

not as much as people would think? even comparing absolute/ub to pstars is ridiculus for one. the amount of profit they would loose would be immense if they were caught cheating for 1.

for 2, they would be looking to see if the rgns were correct. which they are. its not very hard to get a few mil HH together to see if the statistical facts match up to the rgns. ur a moron.

Party Poker's engine fixes the outcome of cards in cash games to benefit the company in two ways:

- Generates more rake ("action flops" inducing more interest in hands)

- Keeps more people playing (and more rake donated) by levelling the playing field. Rewarding bad play/players with "Miracle" flop/turn/river cards time and time again, against the overarching odds, keeping their bankroll intact.

If the turn of the card was absolutely random then there'd be a lot less players and a lot less fish. The site would be busto.

The turn of a card is ultimately not random, or even realistically simulated random.

I'm not going to go into it in more detail than that. Any regular who isn't kidding himself can back me up here, or leave it. I've played on the site for over 4 years now, and for a considerable amount of that time it's been my only source of income (0.25/0.50 right up to 10/20). I'm going to continue playing Party Poker as I have done since I was 18 because I'm familiar with how the software (albeit corrupt) works, and because the competition is still shockingly poor.

Cheers
Awesome Level!

I cant win on ftp either , The players are worse than anywhere else, and i cant beat them.Yesterday on the bubble with 1 player left to go i got JJ UTG, i thout .. I wont raise it becouse i know someone will have AA or KK so i limped. MP1 raised, button reraised all in. JJ into a muc. Next hand. I am in the bb with K8os. 1 limper and the sb completes. Flop KQ8 2 clubs. SB min bets (WTF ??) I put a decent raise, limper folds, SB calls. I left to my self about 8K chips behind becouse i knew what the turn card will be .. And SB call, turn Qc and sb goes all in. Ok, that one was easy to fold. Last hand i am in sb. Got AKs, UTG limps, 1 more player limps. I shove my stack, UTG calls with AQ -.-. River Q. I know it happens ... Thats probably just variance or something ;D but the same storry repeats all the time.

OMGOMGOMG so take this hand for example which took place two days ago:

I open KK in MP because I'm fly like that. BB RRes, I call because I'm the ****. Flop comes 3-3-2, as dry as can be. He CBets near pot, I ship because bitches love calling, and he calls obv. with 10-10. Turn+river comes some **** like 8-J, and I win an $800 pot because it's what I do.

really? 'cause I had a similar hand yesterday.

EP LAGtard opens for 3.5bb's; I re-pop OTB for about 9bb's. Flop comes T high, rainbow. LAGtard bets about 3/4 pot, I bet enough to put him all in. He tanks and finally calls w/77.

River = 7

wtf?
