This sucks big time. Has anyone received a check from the USA that was requested after the account freezings and came from a US account? Is so can someone please pm me the info so I can request one from full tilt that will actually cash.
Some banks handle these types of checks differently, its probably worth looking into opening another account since this kind of check is probably what we have available short term.

So we shouldn't deposit these checks from Canada? WTF? I don't want to wait 4 to 6 weeks for them to clear...

Not sure. I looked at the check again and it actually has a big Canadian banks address, but in small fine print it has a US bank on there also.

I'm taking it back tomorrow and asking her again if that matters.

Sportsbooks do it the same way. Banks all deal with it differently

Does anyone know if there's a difference in speed between checks over $1k and those below? It used to be checks over that amount arrived faster.

People that are new to receiving the Canadian checks:

I can help. These are the ONLY checks I've ever received. THEY ARE GOOD. Different banks/tellers will over react to these. They do not need to be held for 30 days. I would suggest depositing them in the ATM.

I happen to take mine to a check cashing place. The first time I did this it was somewhat of a scene. They had trouble verifying the funds, but once they called the bank they were fine. I have received over 20 of these. If you can not wait, I would suggest going to a check cashing place.

If you do deposit through your atm I think you will be fine and not have to wait long. For sure by the second or third time you will not. These are written in U.S. funds and again DO NOT need to be held. Again these are good as gold.

The extra change they are adding to these is explained in the leaflet the check is enclosed in. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO SEPARATE THE CHECK FROM THIS. It's basically so that the funds look more like a payment for services rather then a 2500 even check. The leaflet has instructions for newbs on how to be discreet. It says something like" When cashing this check, if asked, simply say this check is a payment and it was sent to me at my request.

This is to stop the kind of actions that shuts processors down. A good example would be last summer's moneygram option. The fact is you had loud mouth kids going into wall mart and receiving 2500 in cash and bragging to the tellers "I'm a baller, pay me my poker money yo!" Needless to say the moneygram option went down in less then a month.

Anyway you can PM me if you need any help/info/confirmation. Again these are the only checks I've ever received and I have a lot of experience with them.

Cliff's: 1.Canadian checks either need to go in the ATM or if you are worried about a hold being placed and need cash you can take them to a check cashing place.
2.These checks are fine, and have been around for a while.
3.Pm me if you have any questions/concerns/or need confirmation that these are the checks that I am talking about.
gl guys, and don't worry.

Approved 6/12 Received 6/17...Wow!

Odd thing- I also have a check withdrawal approved 6/10 that has yet to arrive. Way too early to worry, but has anyone else had their checks come in the wrong order?

Once quick prudent mention. I've had these checks take over 2 weeks to receive, and I've also had them within 3days. There is something about Canada's mail syatem. Like one example one time a check was delayed, they had two holliday's in Canadathat that they dont observe in the states. This delayed one of the checks. I live in seattle (Up near the Canadian border) and you would think it doesnt take much time to mail...but they do.

Also I have had them sent regular mail, and and some sent FED EX. Oddly enough they come from Kahanawake witch is where the "separate" governing body is located.

Anyway, as a whole these checks take a while to get to you. average of 7-12 days, even though they will be postmarked the day that they were approved.

What kind of fees do you pay for this?

so are all of the new checks being issued from canada? i requested a w/d on 6/13 and i really don't want to **** with that. banks do always have to send it for collection with an extended hold placed on the funds (i worked as a teller for a few years). those of you who just got the money hassle-free were just lucky - the teller didn't notice it was a foreign check, and when the accounting department found it (these checks will never process like a US check - they get rejected by the fed and will always be sent to an accounting/collections department), they decided not to go into your account and manually put a hold on the money. so if you don't run good like that, then you'll be waiting a long time for your canada $.

^^^

yeah, that's what they told me the first time i tried to cash one (back in the day), that it had to go to collections. good to know they weren't making that up (my bank does that sometimes).

like i said, i got a little love at the branch where they knew me -- 10 business days. hopefully that will continue, but it definitely requires more planning on our part going forward.

Yes, the FTP check is from Canada, but is drawn in American Dollars though an american subsidiary of an international bank, meaning there should be no holds like there is for a foreign check

it all depends if the check has an 8-digit routing number (canada) or 9-digit (usa). currency and subsidiary don't matter.

usa looks like this |:123456789|:

canada looks like this |:12345-678|:

if it's a canada routing number, then it needs to be sent for international collection, a very extensive process

it has a 9 digit number, been cashing checks like these from smaller sites for years, there has never been a hold
