Different PokerStars account using my email, phishing emails? Different PokerStars account using my email, phishing emails?

Received 2 different emails one from security@starsaccount.com, and another paymentservices@starsaccount.com quoting a different account charging 177 USD on their card but using my email, then asking now for a verification request. Are these scam emails? Or how has another account been able to use my email address that i already use for my different pokerstars account?

Sounds unlikely.

How are they proposing you verify? If you need to click a link or reply to the email, is the link or email address legit?

My stars account has been limited pending an investigation ( was notified of this on Pokerstars whilst being logged onto it)
They have then emailed me from "investigations@starsaccount.uk" asking for a clear photo ID and a bank statement with only the first 6 and 4 numbers visible.
To relate this to real life my debit card has been fraudulently used for several things such as Uber over the past 2 days which ive now cancelled
, not sure if this is related.?
Only thing i don't understand is how another account can use my email and still get an approved payment ? And also aren't starsaccount domains the one stars actually uses for its email services?

So today I logged into my starts account and instantly received this pop-up message informing me that in my email I would found some steps to prevent my account from becoming restricted.

After searching a bit, I found this 4 days old email from the address no_reply2@starsaccount.com stating the following:

Quote:
As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure we “know our customers” (KYC) we kindly request the following documentation, to avoid any future account restriction.

Please note until this has been provided you will be unable to withdraw or transfer any funds.

Failure to provide your documents within the next 30 days, will result in your account being restricted from all real money activity.

Please take a direct scan, screenshot or digital photo of your documents and attach them via our web contact form: Contact Us

ID Document

A front & back copy of your Government Issued Photo ID, such as your Passport or National ID Card. (Please note: if the ID card contains your current address and this matches your account address, you are not required to send further proof of your address at this time.)

Proof of Address

Please also provide proof of your home address such as copy of a recent “utility bill” or “bank statement” clearly showing your full name, current address and an issue date (no older than 3 months).

Please Note: We cannot accept statements from online banks such as Revolut, Monese, Monzo, Atom, N26, Pockit Ltd, etc.

Once all required documents have been received and accepted, we will notify you accordingly.

Thank you for your cooperation.
Kind Regards,
Stars Support
Not sure if this is actually starts contacting me or if someone is trying to phish me or something. I've been watching Mr. Robot lately, so this may be contributing to my paranoia, but I don't understand why they didn't contact me from their usual address support@pokerstars.eu

What do you guys think?

A little research goes a long way.

http://www.starsaccount.com/

https://www.pokerstars.com/starsaccount/

I'd say indications are that it's legit, but I can't say conclusively that it is. Maybe contact OP (I merged this thread with another just like it from a few years ago) and see how it turned out for him, or Stars directly? You could try PMing one of their reps here.

Edit to add - One more Google search has me pretty convinced the address is legit:

As long as you use their "web contact form: Contact Us" from their lobby, you can't go wrong. If there is a link in the e-mail, (which there probably is not), don't use it - hovering your mouse over a link in a phishing attempt will show the actual link, and is the easiest way to spot one.

There is indeed a link in the email, and I did click on it because, well, I'm an idiot. Didn't upload any document there or anything, but I guess it's possible I have given access to my computer and all my accounts to some criminal.

In any case, I will be uploading the documents through their lobby, as per your suggestion. And may decide to format my computer just to cover all bases

If it was a phishing attempt, you should be ok this time. The bad news is that the phisherman will know you are an idiot and will sell your e-mail address as a mark. Expect to receive other e-mails telling you "Your Amazon Prime is about to be renewed unless you tell us to cancel", etc, scams.

Had the same email. Tried forwarding it to Stars Support (EU address). Got an auto-reply that Stars does not respond to replies to this email. Unless the scammers are capable of building in some code that auto-responds to forwarded emails, it thus appears legit to me.

Still confused me. My guess is that whoever does this KYC check is doing it from a non-Eu office. Would still recommend only submitting documents through the software.

BTW, @starsaccount.com at least used to be a Stars address. I have some old messages about The Deal originating from them.

Today this KYC request appeared as one of my challenges, for a US$ cash reward (via one of their infamous chests), so I suppose it was a legit request after all.

Yeah, I've been receiving those for years. There's a very recurrent one for my Iphone ID or something (good thing I never have owned an Iphone or I may have fallen for that ).
