I've been playing on CP, recently had some problems with everything freezing up and was searching for someway to refresh my connection, and came upon this from the site's FAQ––

What happens if I am disconnected during a game?

If you are disconnected during a game, the software will try to connect you again and put you straight back into the game. If you have reconnected before your hand has timed out, then you can continue playing. However, if your hand does time out before you can reconnect you will automatically be put all-in. What is this??!?

All-In Protect (AIP) is fairly standard on a lot of sites and unfortunately it is open to abuse (can be exploited / angled). As it is so exploitable, most sites cap how many times you can use AIP in a single 24 hour period.

That said - I think you're thinking they put your whole stack into the pot, which isn't what happens. It means that however much you've already invested into a pot, is then treated as an allin bet. It's just a way to protect your investment should your connection drop. Say your stack is $100.00 and you've already put $50 into the pot, then you disconnect, if there was no disconnection protection, if somebody bet into you, your hand would auto-fold as you're disconnected and you would lose the $50. However - with AIP, your $50.00 will be treated as an 'all in' bet, even though you still have $100 behind.
