perhaps this thread could be used for any and all issues relating to running Bovada on a Mac rather than using the Unofficial Bovada or even the Bovada payout thread

Works for me. Anything that helps get the issue escalated and fixed. It has been several days now.

Has anyone tried to run the client on a version of OS X earlier than Yosemite?

Most issues can be resolved by tweaking your firewall and unchecking the "show hand animations" settings in table options.

If that doesn't work, in this order, complete these steps

uninstall poker client

boot mac recovery mode

repair disk permissions

restart

re-install poker client. [INSTALL ON A USER ACCOUNT THAT HAS ADMIN PRIVILEGES, THIS IS A MUST]

repair disk permissions

restart

enjoy the bad beats

Good idea starting this thread. Now we don't have to read "why don't you just buy a PC..."

+1

There was a bunch of haters in the other thread. People that obviously have never used a mac.

Has anyone tried using a time machine backup? My last backup was from over 70 days past and I don't want to do that unless I have too.

Gofish, do you have the client running? I have tried all the steps you outline, but no luck. I have even run the client as root.

I am almost sure that there was some change with Yosemite. If I had access to a Mac with an older OS, I would confirm that the client still works.

I get "disconnected" 1-2 times an hour. The rest of my internet works during this time but I get a "you've been disconnected" screen on my tables. Most of the time it comes back after 30 or so seconds but sometimes it completely kicks me off all my tables. Really annoying. Anyone have suggestions for this?

What version of OS X are you on?

Use VirtualBox [free] and Windows 8.1 Enterprise [also free].

If you're on OS X, [MAC], don't pay for any of this. learn how to use VirtualBox [takes less than 5 mins] and download the trial Windows 8.1 Evaluation ISO, which is valid for 90 days, and spread the word. It's all free.

Kind of hard to uncheck stuff in table settings when we can't open the software...

Same issue here. I don't think it's specific to Yosemite. I was playing on Yosemite previously. I think it's probably a problem on Bovada's end with their server configuration.

Try looking at the console bovada:

Followed this to the letter and it did not work

I looked at the console as well. I think that is just a warning, but it could be an indicator of the issue. At any rate, I am still dead in the water.

I shut down everything I could that might have a network connection open. I ran the client a few times and I never saw any sort of network connection (you can run netstat, grep for 192 to ignore all the internal stuff). It feels like something is blocking the connection. Does Yosemite have some sort of security/firewall that is coming in? is someone in the network doing this - gasp!

I downloaded the client on a PC and could not connect either. Can anyone in Texas connect with any client?

I tried the mobile app and it works, but is a different type of network connection.

I am starting to believe this is an OS X Yosemite issue. There was an update to Yosemite - 10.10.1 that I think created this issue. Note that Yosemite now has a built in firewall (it is OFF by default). I have seen a bunch of complaints about network and SSH issues. I am now thinking they changed something that broke the client. I wish I had a box that did not have the latest update.

Well I ran Lock, Carbon, and Pokerstars.net. They all work fine. The issue may have been introduced by Yosemite, but it is unique to Bovada.

Now that I think about it, I did install 10.10.1 on Tuesday and I haven't played since then. I think you're on to it mdcslcmdc. Does anyone with 10.10.1 have a time machine back up that wouldn't mind trying to revert?

I don't think this is a Yosemite issue. I have been running 10.10 for weeks and Bovada client was working fine, then stopped working on Monday this week when attempting to update the client. I haven't installed 10.10.1 yet, but am about to just to see if anything changes.

I agree this is probably an issue on the Bovada side.

this is definitely a Bovada issue. I updated to Yosemite a while ago and opened Bovada for the first time in months on Tuesday and it worked fine. Then on Wed. when I tried opening it, thats when I got the handshake issue that everyone seems to be having.

I was running the 10.10.1 dev preview for like 2 weeks and Bovada was working fine with it until Wednesday.

I tried it on my daughters Mac, 10.10, without the update and it did NOT work.

Could someone try it on Mavericks (10.9) and see if it works?

I think it is a combination of things - again, there is a new firewall function in OS X (it is disabled by default)
