So i called my bank this morning to obtain the SWIFT code to attempt a bank wire and they claimed that they didn't have one. Is this even possible or did i just speak to a customer service idiot and i should try to talk to someone higher?
I was unable to find it online, i called the bank back and spoke to someone higher up and they don't seem to have a code. FWIW it is a local credit union that has only about 8 branches total.
Tell them it's for an international bank wire. Most of the standard customer service ppl are probably clueless. If their is a branch headquarters or something and talk to someone there.
I spoke with the head of the accounting department and they assured me they did not have a swift code. I spoke with several people at Absolute and they told me that they could try and do it manually with just a routing number and account number. This makes me a little nervous though, opinions?
So i guess i should open a new bank account to try and do this? Any suggestions on which national large banks are most friendly to these kinds of transactions?
in the US I dont know, if I were you I would open an offshore account and be done with all the problems(you will need to report the account to the IRS), you can google offshore bank account
How would i transfer money from my offshore account to my US account? Also do you have any suggestions on a specific offshore bank? Googling offshore banks seems to bring up a bunch of sites which look rather unsafe.
My bank specificaly told me if they ask for a swift code, use the routing number.
Poker4Ever's "add bank account" page also auto-fills in the IBAN # based on the routing number that you give, if you enter in your routing/account/routing (in the BIC/SWIFT code field), then select United States -- apparently using a master database of them. It's pretty cool, really.
I haven't yet actually TRIED a wire .. I've been on a massive losing streak all week, and am nearly broke. :|

It's possible that a small credit union doesn't have a SWIFT code. They are only needed for foreign wires. Or it could be that everyone you have talked to so far just doesn't know the code exists.
