As aussies, is it recommended that we use a VPN when playing ignition nowadays? Or does it not matter? My ISP is telstra

It is recommended that you change your ISP's DNS server using these instructions.

https://developers.cloudflare.com/1....1.1.1/windows/

Playing via a VPN is still against their Ts & Cs.

I'm trying to register on Black Chip Poker and ACR but there's no option for Australians.
Have they limited the access? I read online that we should use a VPN, but can't give them an overseas address anyway.

Anybody can help?

Question

Do you have to declare bitcoin gains if you acquired the bitcoin for your own personal use? Is it taxed? And at what rate?

Answer

Cryptocurrency, like Bitcoin, is an asset for tax purposes, and there may be tax consequences if you sell it or use it to buy other goods or services. This means that, most of the time, when you dispose of cryptocurrency (by trading, selling or gifting) you’ll need to work out if you have made a capital gain or loss.

However, you may be able to ignore cryptocurrency transactions that are done for your personal use.

If you buy and use cryptocurrency solely to purchase goods or services like clothing or music, the cryptocurrency is usually considered to be a personal use asset, and there are no tax consequences.

Example : Personal use

Michael wants to attend a concert. The concert provider offers discounted ticket prices for payments made in cryptocurrency. Michael pays $270 to acquire cryptocurrency and uses the cryptocurrency to pay for the tickets on the same day. The cryptocurrency in these circumstances is a personal use asset, and there are no tax consequences for Michael.

Example : Investment

Peter has been regularly acquiring cryptocurrency for over six months with the intention of selling at a favourable exchange rate. He has decided to buy some goods directly with some of his cryptocurrency. Because Peter was holding the cryptocurrency as an investment, the cryptocurrency is not a personal use asset. This means that Peter will need to consider the tax issues connected with trading his cryptocurrency, and return any gains or profits in his income for the year.

Cryptocurrency is not a personal use asset if it is acquired, kept or used as an investment, in a profit-making scheme, or in the course of carrying on a business. It’s also worth keeping in mind that the longer you hold your cryptocurrency, the less likely it is that it will be a personal use asset.
Making a deposit onto a Australian exchange in Australian dollars and then converting it to bitcoin and sending to a wallet and onto ignition are you liable to pay tax for doing that or is that personal use and no tax is liable?

I hope not because that's the way I get money on/off poker sites. Except I buy and transfer crypto directly from the exchange to the poker rooms, not via an intermediary wallet,

Can't you just say the moneys from gambling if it is ever questioned?

There's no proof to confirm or deny so how can they tax it?

My understanding is you need to be a French resident and have your poker account linked/verified using a french bank account.

I withdrew 10k AUD in BTC. 10k AUD = 6420USD on XE.com. But they have an internal rate they use to calculate it which meant they took 6532USD out of my account. Is there any way to avoid this vig?

Seems like quite the scam to do this as I deposit in BTC and play in USD so they never convert it to AUD themselves.

I live in Melbourne and play on Winamax. I think you have to be born in Europe to play there. Not sure but it is one of the questions they ask on sign up. You submit the usual proof of I'd and then they send you a code in the mail, takes a couple of weeks.

It will only work for Ignition as it is the only poker room being blocked by ACMA ordered initiatives.

It will not allow you to play where we are geo-blocked by the poker room (i.e. the main regulated sites like Stars/Tilt, party, 888 etc).

Are Australians allowed to play at American Card Room and use this method? Thanks

It could be worth a try, however I believe it is ACR that are blocking new signups from Aussies, not the ISPs.

It may also be worth using a VPN to try and signup. Once you have an ACR account, it is not necessary to use a VPN or alternate DNS server.

I am told that i am unable to deposit via bitcoin as is required an initial credit card transaction, but they block my credit card because "unable to verify my information", but when i contact them they ignore me and just keep saying ''try again in 24 hours''.. I have been trying every 24 hours for the past 5 weeks.

Would a voucher deposit allow me to deposit via bitcoin after?
Gonna bump this because I'm in the same boat. Been trying on and off since lockdown and no progress. I used to be able to play on their sister site Bodog88 a few years back, but for some reason I can't deposit into Ignition now. I don't think it's my network settings since I've tried different DNSes and used a VPN and still can't get card deposit working.

Was talking with someone else on another forum and they were experiencing the same issue. They even tried using a voucher and that still didn't work. I just gave up and ended up using JuicyStakes.

I am playing on there with a VPN. They let me deposit easily with Bitcoin and I have been playing on there the last few weeks with no problems except the software locks up every hour or so. Is this because I am on a VPN? Don't know. Getting money out is another story as you need ID, proof of residency, etc. I only put a few dollars in to try it out until I can prove I can get money out OK. LOL that they let you put money in easily but not out.
