Contact 60 Minutes. In all seriousness, if they interviewed you, I'd watch it.

It seems like girls on average are hotter in Montreal then they are in most places, doesn't it? A 6 in Montreal blows a 6 in a US city out of the water.

Seriously though, trying to post pics of my wife on a poker forum would likely get my ass kicked out, which jeopardizes my ability to get into Canada. :P

This seems easy enough. What did you supply as a "utility bill" or are you saying they didn't require one?

General question. For those that have switched their addresses to a Canadian address. Did you have to change the currency for your deposits/withdrawals to Canadian dollars? If so, was it a simple process?

You don't have to change it but it's very easy if you want to. Just change your preferred currency to whatever you want and then as you play and leave tables, it's automatically converted to your preferred currency.

Sooooo just got the phone call from Pokerstars about the address change. I respect their need to be thorough, but... wow.

On FT, I e-mail them a picture ID and a utility bill, and I'm good to go. Two hours later, I'm back at the tables.

On Stars, I send them picture ID and utility bill, they want bank statement and land line phone as well. I explain to them I only have a cell phone, they agree to make a one time exception.

They call the cell phone and get asked:

- When did you open your account?

- What were the last four digits of the account you used for deposit and withdrawal?

- How much was your last deposit/withdrawal deposit, and when?

- When was the most recent play on the account?

- When was the last time the account was used in the US?

- Who are some players you remember playing against or sending money to, or received money from?

For some of these, I just had to answer, "I don't know, it's been a long time." (The last time I had any significant action on stars was maybe... January?)

I was then informed that my documents and information would be passed on to management, and it may take at least a few days to make a final decision.

Ugh. Again, I understand where they're coming from on this one, but wow.

If I was a casual/recreational player who moved from the US to another country for other reasons, there is no way I would bother with this process.

There's professional, and then there's just paranoia. If Stars hasn't crossed the line on this one, they're certainly toeing it.

I'm saying they didn't require a utility bill, just a US ID and a bank statement/document with your Canadian address on it.

Also, I was account busto on FT on Black Friday, and just deposited successfully using my Visa debit card linked to my CAD checking account. Still waiting on my internet/phone company who's having some issues, so not back up on Stars yet.

Did get a Rogers internet card for $35/month, 1-year contract, up to 1 GB of data/month. A little flaky, but have been playing some low stakes poker on it, and it should work fine as a backup. Verizon wanted something like $100 USD/month for the same amount (or maybe less?) of MB.

For anyone who has moved to Canada from the US, what are you guys using in terms of moving money around and depositiing and withdrawing? Instadebit wont let you sign up without a Canadian SS #, Neteller doesnt go to gambling sites in Canada, blah blah.

Please check out "Teksavvy" - They are set up in Ontario, but are all accross Canada - I have them in Montreal and it is under 33.00 Canadian/month tax-in for unlimited MB. You can get cable or phone line, and I think it is just a monthly billing - no contract.

lol Mexico is not like a war torn country. If you're super paranoid about safety, go to Baja California Sur. Safe as houses.

Just do a little bit of homework and you'll be fine in Mexico. The port cities like Cancun, Veracruz, etc are pretty safe even though they get coke shipments.

***I know this post is long but I hope it will be informative to some people who are desperate for information***

Sigh ok, I can't take anymore of people's nonsense. If you haven't been to Canada in the last 4 months, and or you are not a Canadian Border Patrol Agent, please do not post your opinion as if it fact. People are following this thread with the intent of restarting their entire lives so giving information that could be complete crap can really screw someone over. That being said...

I am writing this post from Vancouver, Canada. I moved here on the 28th of May with 2 other online grinders. I was the last to arrive, I flew, they drove. We have a place with a 3 month lease, bank accounts, new cell numbers, utilities, and everything else. Our accounts are unlocked on both FTP and Pokerstars (except for acbarone who is getting the slowroll from Stars management). When acbarone and timmyox drove through the border, they had 3k cash, computer equipment, 4-6 bags of luggage... so basically packed to the brim. Upon reaching the border, they were stopped and were required to speak to a border agent, and were asked how long they were staying. They had been forewarned about answering with the truth (6 months), so they replied 3-4 weeks, but it could be longer if the live casino games were good. They were asked why they were there (live casino poker games), where they were staying, (local hotel, and had proof of room booking). They were also asked if they had a criminal record, (No) and if they had ever been fingerprinted, and several questions regarding income. The entire questioning process took about an hour and a half. In the end they were allowed to proceed and their passports were NOT stamped.

Upon entering Canada, they were able to secure a 5 bedroom house WITHOUT having proof of income, and were able to get bank accounts WITHOUT proof of address.

Enter me. My flight landed on the 28th at the Vancouver airport. I filled out my declaration card and left the area for the date I was leaving blank due to the fact I was planning on saying the exact date I wanted to leave hadn't been decided yet. Upon reaching the customs booth in the airport, I was asked why I was coming to Canada. I said that I was there to visit friends and play some live poker at the casinos. I had 2 bags of clothes and $4500 US. They asked how long I planned to stay and I replied 3-5 weeks. They asked my profession, I replied poker player. They asked if I received any monetary support from my parents (I'm 24), to which I said no, and they asked how much I made last year playing poker last year, to which I said about 30k, but that I was also in school at the time. I have a previous military background and they asked about that, including questions about whether or not I received any monetary compensation from them (No). They wrote the number 52 on my declaration card and told me to proceed. At this point I thought I was home free, and oh how wrong I was. While waiting by the luggage terminals to pick up my bags I was stopped by another BP agent who was patrolling the terminal and was asked to provide my passport and declaration card. He then asked me the same questions as the previous agent but with a little more accusing tone. I repeated all my answers and he wrote the number 52 on me declaration card right over the first one. I got my bags and was headed in the line to exit the terminal. There was one more BP agent that was checking dec. cards and when I got to him, he told me to proceed to this back room area. I was forced to wait for 45 min and then was further interrogated about my purpose in Canada. I was asked to provide the address of where'd I'd be staying. When I did, I also told them that it was my friends place, and I was just visiting for a few weeks. At this point they asked for acbarone's name and phone number. When I pulled out my phone to give it to him, he confiscated my phone and proceeded to go through it. After waiting for another 30 min he came back and asked had I ever met the person I was going to stay with before. Now the truthful answer is no, however I felt that would not be believable, so I answered yes (not a good idea). They then proceeded to call acbarone and ask him questions about me, to which he told them the truth that we had never actually met...

I am then put in an actual interrogation room, and repeatedly grilled about why my story is "not adding up." After about 3 1/2 hours I was released with a piece of paper in my passport that said I must leave Canada in 3 weeks and notify them when I leave by turning this paper into the airport customs otherwise they can issue a warrant for my arrest...

So now I think I have 2 options, one is call customs and ask for an extension, or two, leave the country for like a day and then come back and try again and hope for a different agent. I will update with what the results will be. So I think what it comes down to is don't get CAUGHT lying. From the tone of the BP agents, they made it seem as if I was coming for 6 months to just play poker I will be denied entry. However, if you say you are coming to stay for a few weeks they may choose to make sure you leave after a few weeks. I think its going to come down to a crap shoot. I know this post was long, but I hope it cleared up some misconceptions about what to do and what NOT to do.

Sorry to hear about your story but it's been posted in multiple threads by myself and others over the last month to just tell the truth. No poker player, to my knowledge, has been denied entry for saying they're playing poker live or online.

Also, you can stay in Canada up to six months without a visa so there's nothing wrong with telling the BPA that when you arrive.

Just be honest, there's nothing to hide.

I got the piece of paper in the passport as well (from telling the truth), but not a big deal in my case b/c I really do want to leave in a month (my stated time). I think a fair amount of it is just a crap shoot of what border guard you get, though I think this is the first story on here of someone having difficulty flying in vs. driving.

Obvious question is once you get that paper, does it in anyway make things any more difficult when you come back. Hopefully not.

Just tell the truth, it seems to be working for everyone else, and me. Spin it that you're there temporarily for the summer for vacation and work. Have all the docs, as in the lease. Maybe book a return flight in 2 months and cancel it. If you have to lie, don't lie about something that you can get caught. What would be wrong with saying you met him over the internet?

I'm actually super surprised that everyone's just running up to Canada and Mexico is not being mentioned more. I think once winter hits, people may be rethinking their choices!

As long as you don't move to Juarez or Tijuana, you're pretty much OK. In tourist areas like Cancun, Cabo, etc. there is very little violence (less than most major US cities). There are ex-pat communities (lots of Canadians move/retire to Mexico for a reason) in most of these tourist areas, absolutely ridiculous beaches, cheap beers, relaxed lifestyle, etc.

when you told the bank your address, did you have to have some sort of proof of your just told them? because i have been emailing blackcard support and figuring out everything i need and they said utility bill, but i will be staying with friends so none of the bills will be in my name, so they said bank statement with name, so do i just say "hey RBC, this is where i live put that down and gimme a piece of paper with your letter head on it and sign it for me please"

I just gave the bank my address, they didn't ask for proof, just like in the U.S.

Once my account was set up, I asked the dude for an account statement and they stamped and dated it.
