00 for online poker, what would you do? 00 for online poker, what would you do?

Hey guys.
I am looking at playing online with around a $1000 bankroll.
I do play online cash and some tournaments here and there.

If you were me would you a) play .25/.50 with 2000x BB bank roll playing at $50 per session.

Or b) go to .50/1 with 1000x BB to play at $100 session.

There is also cash tournaments i wouldn't mind playing as well, with a decent amount of players 100-400ish, nothing like 5000 etc.

What would you do?
Cheers

With 1k you're hardly rolled for 50NL, definitely not for 100NL. Play 50NL if you've beaten that level before for a solid winrate over a significant sample size. Otherwise start at 25NL or simply deposit more.

Well at 25NL i am looking at 4000xBB its seems too low to grind it out at where if i am playing 50NL its less of a grind and a better way to build a bankroll?

in no limit poker you express bankroll by # of buy ins.

Depending on bb/100 over a significant sample size people recommend between 30-50 buy ins.

You are currently rolled for 25nl.

Play that.

Well you basically have 20 buyins for 50NL, 10 buyins for 100NL, or 40 buyins for 25NL. 20 buyins is the very least you should have for a given level. As soon as you lose a buyin or two, you're already underrolled for 50NL and each loss will take off a huge chunk of your roll. You could play 50$ and move down if your bankroll reaches ~ 700$. I can see why griding 25NL doesnt seem very attractive, but you need to be aware of the huge variance in NLHE, even at these stakes.

when you say huge variance what are you referring too?
i notice when i play 25NL that there is a lot more hit and runners, its micro so you get a lot of loose calls and agressive pre flop all in.

where in 50NL i didnt get that as much, you get your fish, and a lot of 3 betting happening and calling most but that could be why i lost money playing 50NL..

I'm referring to the fact that big downswings and breakeven stretches happen even to the best of players. So if the 1000$ are all you plan on investing in online poker, you better make sure you don't lose them all. Which means that you shouldn't play any games you're not rolled for, as these games significantly increase your risk of ruin. Instead, play the games you're rolled for (currently 25NL) and move up as soon as your bankroll allows it.

You might want to look at some bankroll management related posts in the beginners forum.

I agree with the others, grind out some 25NL until you have a little more padding in the bankroll. I took my first shot at 50NL when I had 24BI's and forced myself to go back to 25NL as soon as I dropped below 22BI's. Rinsed/Repeated the process until I was well rolled for 50 and continually beating the limit. You could also mix the 2 limits so that you can get a more gradual feel for it as opposed to jumping right in.

Please point out the math fail. If you're referring to the part where I said he could play 50NL until he's down to ~30 buyins for 25NL, you obviously missed the context.

Just make sure you get rakeback and a deposit bonus. You can start at 50, and if you lose some, you can always go back to 25. The deposit bonus alone should give you a head start. I wouldnt do the 100 game with 1k

Id say play 25NL for a while first, but if you INSIST then play 50NL ... 100NL is just asking for trouble

But that being said, with the read I have on you, then this sounds like your thing:

just short stack the .50/1 with $20 buy ins. I promise if you learn a solid short stack strategy this will be the best way to go on a short bankroll.

take some of that 1k, sign up to a coaching site, get HM or PT, and play a mix of 10nl, 25nl, and $2-$10 MTT's.

If I had a 1000 dollar bankroll, I'd secure a good rakeback deal (30%+) and then play my best game at reasonable stakes. Grind it up.

Deposit $1000 on AP, and put it all on black in virtual Roulette IMO.

In terms of rakeback i have used all the following in the past: ftp, poker stars, hansa, pacific 888, ultimatebet, do you think its worthwhile playing another site and building up my bankroll on there first then come across to poker stars or full tilt?

cheers
