Does anyone have any inside info on whether PokerJournal is going to get updated for iOS 11?

When the app broke in iOS 8, the author did some (minimal) legwork to get it working again (though I think the issue was ultimately resolved by Apple).

Now, however, iOS 11 is going to require all apps be 64 bit, which PJ is not, apparently. If the author doesn't recompile it into 64 bit, it (along with lots of other old apps you might have) will become a doorstop once iOS 11 rolls out.

I like PJ (and have already paid for it, obviously), and would rather not have to start over with a new app, but if it's going to have to happen, I'd rather do it on my terms and timeframe than be scrambling to do it after it's already broken and my data may no longer be recoverable or transferable.

Anyone have suggestions for another poker tracking app that:
(1) They like
(2) Can import PokerJournal data?

I've used Poker Analytics for a while. After trying out a bunch of live poker tracker apps, it seems to be the only one that is still under active development. It has a good interface, icloud sync, lots of power features. The main downside is that it's a subscription service, $30 a year, but worth it if you are a serious poker player.

As for the PJ situation, try to contact the devs and hope they will update the app.

I don't know if it does anything with my PJ stats, but this one is way better.

I've been a PokerJournal user for years.

Finally purchased RunGood today. I was able to export all my data from PokerJournal and import it into RunGood. Very pleased with the results!

The trick is to export the "Cash Games" data from Poker Journal (not the generic "data backup") as a CSV file. Then email it to yourself and follow the instructions in the RunGood import settings. Worked like a charm.

Will be buying something for the first time soon.

Thoughts on Poker Income Pro vs RunGood?

In the same boat as many. Long time Poker Journal app. It's dated but works. Apparently it isn't going to work as soon as I update to IOS11 so I need to find a replacement.

Not interested in paying $30/year. That's garbage.

I've also noticed MOST of the poker tracking apps haven't been updated in over a year.

It sounds like RunGood, although hasnn't been updated in over a year WILL work with IOS11 so it must have already been setup for 64 bit.

Anyone have any recommendations to replace Poker Journal.

I have ZERO confidence the developer will update as I've attempted contact several times int he past with ZERO reply.

Thanks!

I am also having problems in the Poker Journal app on IOS 11. When I go to Setup, Export Data, and select any option, I get the error message "can't send email. Please make sure at least one email account is setup and enabled for this device."

How do I enable an email account in the app? I've clicked on everything and can't figure it out. Thanks.

PJ won't work on ios 11. I'm not even sure how you got it to launch to get to the export screen. AFAIK, you had to export your data under ios10 first before upgrading if you wanted it.

Maybe I'm wrong though. In any case, you don't enable email in the app. You enable email on the main phone settings. i.e. the mail app. exporting from PJ just creates a new mail in the mail app and adds the export file as an attachment, then you type in an address to send it to and hit send.

Not sure either, but I got it to launch and it has been (mostly) fully functional for me. With your guidance I was able to export the data via the mail app, which I previously did not have set up. The problem I ran into is that the cash games were not included in the email as an attachment, but rather the data sits in the body of the email. The only attachments were alltourneys.csv, players.csv, and players.csv. Is there a way to copy/paste the data from the body of the email to another app like Poker Analytics?

I have no idea what you got or why, but if the cash game data is in plain text, then you can probably cut and paste it into excel, mess with the formatting if needed, get it parsed into separate columns, and then export it as a CSV yourself.

I have no idea what format poker analytics is expected, but you can almost certainly make it yourself once you figure that out.

So I had been holding off on upgrading to ios11 because of this app (and only for this app), but recently had to get a watch repair done and when it came back it required me to update in order to re-pair it, so the time was now.

So this weekend I went back and did more research. I looked at:
* Poker Bankroll Tracker ($5/yr)
* Poker Income Bankroll Tracker ($10 one time)
* RunGood ($18 one time)
* Poker Analytics 4 ($30/yr)

There are other trackers out there, but most are either a little too simplistic, or they weren't able to import PJ data. Or maybe I just missed some.

I have an iPhone 7+. I didn't look at compatibility with the iPhone X, which may be important to some of you.

I have PJ data going back to 2011, which I exported using the PJ functionality. I did all my testing on ios10. As you'll see, I had to go back and re-export several times, so this was a good thing.

Here's what I was looking for:
* Must import PJ data
* Cash game functionality. I don't really play tournaments, so tournament widgets aren't that useful to me. If they come with, great. YMMV.
* Ability to quickly and easily enter in a new live session, with fields pre-populated based on your defaults for that room. Ideally, the ability to select between multiple different "defaults" which are different in each room. (In my primary room, I play 2 games with different buy-ins and different game types.)
* Good filtering capabilities
* Good reporting capabilities

Results:
* Poker Bankroll Tracker looked nice, and seems to be updated regularly (more than weekly since October!). Unfortunately, it seems to really be focused more on the Tournament side, and many of the features are aimed in that direction (listings of public tournaments coming up, with payout schedules and levels). The cash game features seemed fairly rudimentary by comparison. I had trouble getting the PJ import to work at first, but I did some sleuthing and realized I had to fix the stakes in PJ to be formatted like "$10/$20", then re-exported, and it worked fine. The free version only imported 6 sessions IIRC, but that was enough for me to realize that it just didn't seem to have the features I needed for cash games. In another couple months it might, given how often it updates, but for now it didn't. This app might have been perfect for some people though.

* Poker Income Bankroll Tracker looked a little worse and more plain based on screenshots. I was able to get the import to work right away, but it took about an hour to complete with my data set. I started playing around with it, and after about 5 minutes it crashed on me. Attempts to relaunch it resulted in the app opening, freezing, and crashing without showing any data. It was updated in December, but before that it had been a year and a half, so I doubt this one is in active development. I wasn't really in the mood to start from scratch again, either, so I punted on this one.

* RunGood - the Lite version only lets you import a few records. But this was enough for me to realize that I hate its interface. Starting a new game up feels very clumsy, and I couldn't find a way to get defaults set. The Goals seem novel, but not very useful for me. The filtering seemed primitive. It was last updated almost 2 years ago. In the end, I didn't like it much.

* Poker Analytics 4 - I had trouble importing this one too, and it was also capped at 6 records or so in the free version. I eventually figured out that I needed to change "Limit" to "FL" and "No Limit" to "NL" in PJ then re-export, which fixed most of the problems. Then I also had to fix up some of the notation I had used to indicate games that ran with a full or half kill (basically losing that info) to get it 100%.

When I tested PA4 out a few months ago I remembered not liking the interface much, but this time around I took to it a little better - it's definitely polished and new looking. The filtering is fairly flexible, even though I could quibble with some of the terminology used and its grouping. There are some cool looking reports (sleep schedule, workout schedule related?), even though some of them seem pretty esoteric/useless, and there is a "compare" screen that I'm still not quite sure what it means. I also wish you could filter the reports, but reports seem to only work on the full data set.

It's been updating a few times a month since they went to the subscription model, which is good. Based on other recommendations here, I eventually decided to pull the trigger on buying it for a year, even though $30/year still annoys me. Importing my 1000 sessions took about 5 seconds, compared to the hour the earlier app took. So maybe you get what you pay for. So far, I am liking it, but I'll have to wait to use it a bit to be sure. It doesn't let you set defaults for a room (it says it will automatically pick whatever you play most, but we'll see).

So that's my spiel. I know it's late, but maybe it will help someone else at some point.

fwiw I dug through a lot of these apps and settled on Poker bankroll tracker. So far I have logged 36 sessions on the free version and get good info back. I liked PA4 but just can't bite the bullet of $30/yr when I feel like I can get the same exact thing out of poker bankroll tracker. I also didn't have to import anything as I was basically starting from scratch.

Just offering up some info on what I have experienced to maybe help some of the other people searching for a tracker.

Bump. Anyone know if pokerjournal is now compatible with ios11? This has been a headache for me; I REALLY like PJ, have a gigantic data set, and don't want to lightly sub it for something else.

As far as I know no, and it's looking like it never will. It's been a long time since ios11 came out. Best to convert it to something being maintained anyway.

I corresponded with dinesh privately about this issue and he asked that I post for his updated take on here for the benefit of everyone. So, dinesh, eager to hear your thoughts about the best alternative to Poker Journal. Personally, I've recently gotten Poker Analytics as a replacement and, while the creators have been helpful and quick to communicate back with me, the app has not been importing my stuff properly. It doesn't help that I'm trying to import thousands of hours of data regarding multiple game and limit types as well as stakes, many of which have been custom created inside PJ.

I've been considering trying Rungood. The main thing I care about is being able to easily create reports that can combine multiple filters like location, stake, game, and certain time period. So far it's hard to test on Analytics while my data isn't showing up properly, but it doesn't look like it's easily able to do what I want it to do, which Poker Journal did very well (very easily create a filtered report for parameters described above, which could be saved and pulled up easily as well).
