Burned too many cards question Burned too many cards question

This just happened yesterday, and I feel the floor made a mistake.

The dealer lost track of action on the flop, and burned 2 cards before putting out the turn. I noticed it immediately, but I wasn't in the hand, so I was just going to let it go, because whatever, still random, blah blah blah.

So action completes on the turn, and she notices there are 3 burn cards before burning and placing the river, so she places the next card without burning, which should be the real river card. Someone asks why she didn't burn, and someone gets upset saying the hand should be cancelled, blah blah blah stupid live players being stupid.

So the floor gets called over, and some how the decision is to take the river card back and shuffle it back into the deck and deal a new river card????

I wasn't in the hand, so I didn't say a word, but that has to be a horrible ruling. Why wouldn't you just leave that card there, since that is actually the river card.

The only card that was incorrect was the turn card, which was supposed to be the last burn card, and the last burn card should actually be the turn, but since there was already a round of action, you can't take that card back.

The guy with KQ beat the guy with KJ on either of the two rivers, so it didn't change who won in either case, but this can't be right, correct?

Wow Pope, you of all people I thought would have spoken up when you noticed the mistake!

Aside from that, the dealer actually got it right (if you forget about the fact that she didn't call the floor immediately). I'm guessing she got it right because she was trying to hide her mistake though, not because she's a floorman in disguise.

If there is action on a board card, it plays. Then, all efforts should be made so that the next board card is the correct card in sequence. Before using the top card however, the floor should count down the muck and make sure that the "extra" burncard isn't just a random card from the muck that was accidentally wedged under the initial two burns.

16. If the dealer fails to burn a card or burns more than one card, the error should be corrected if discovered before betting action has started for that round. Once action has been taken on a boardcard, the card must stand. Whether the error is able to be corrected or not, subsequent cards dealt should be those that would have come if no error had occurred. For example, if two cards were burned, one of the cards should be put back on the deck and used for the burncard on the next round. On the last round, if there was no betting because a player was all-in, the error should be corrected if discovered before the pot has been awarded, provided the deck stub, boardcards, and burncards are all sufficiently intact to determine the proper replacement card.

I didn't notice it quickly enough for her not to expose the incorrect burn card. Do I really have some reputation for being a rules nit or something?

The bad part of such an approach is it kinda lets an alert player in the hand freeroll a bit. If an active player is paying attention and notices two burns or zero burns, he can wait for the cards to appear face up and only complain if he doesn't like what he sees. Good flop, keep yer mouth shut. Bad flop, ask that it be corrected.
