I performed a scientific survey just now. I posed four people the following question: "You have AJ of the same suit and the flop comes out with two more of that suit... What suit are you imagining you have?"
I got 3 spades and 1 hearts.

So now for the rest of my life I will undervalue the likelihood of Vs hold a club flush.

I am tempted to think it's something to do with the ranking of the suits in bridge ... Except who plays bridge any more? (But for someone who learned it early on, spades will always seem the most powerful suit and clubes the weakest ...).

Come to think of it, in dealing high card for the button aren't ties determined by suit rankings?

They are. As is the bring-in playing Stud.

Those are the only two cases in poker where suit rankings matter.

I have seen them used for determining who gets a seat when a table breaks and players are asked to draw cards to determine the order for seat selection/to see who gets a seat and who gets on the waiting list. But in some rooms ties are decided by players with the same card picking a second card to break the tie.

You guys just helped to plug a big leak in my game. I gotta stop trying to rep a flush when it's clubs....I always wondered why so few of my club flush bluffs got through, now I know. Rep spade and heart flushes only.

which leads to the other side of the coin,
try to pick off less flush bluffs in hearts and spades and more in clubs
UNLESS?
its another 2+2er then ;do they also know you read this post and if so are trying a double reverse bluff not bluff!

On a similar note ... Player last night insisted that pocket 7-9s hit more sets than any other pp.

Logic was that lower pairs don't play and larger pairs take it down PF more often with 3-bets. There is actually something to bite onto here beyond the 'flush fun' except he is saying 'hit' rather than 'see' at the table.

I suppose you could argue that players play hearts/spades more and thus you 'see' more of those flushes ... as is his logic with the sets.

Sounds like an opportunity with a hand tracking ap ... GL

Advertisements for casinos and live poker events always use Spades as their de-facto suit when designing the advert. Those are impressionable on people so they naturally gravitate towards envisioning the Spades when they think of a specific suit.

Also Spades are considered the highest suit. People who are aware of this will naturally favor them subconsciously more than others.

Plus the Ace of Spades is usually the prettiest card in the deck

I absolutely guarantee you, though, that clubs comes up 3 suited, 4 suited, and 5 suited, exactly as frequently on the board as the other thre suits, sampling across all fair games, online and live.
It's definitely the perception of the suits.
-Spades and the Ace is self explanatory everyone knows that.
-Diamonds are a girls best friend.
-7 of hearts

For clubs, it's really only the 3 that has any notoriety and that's usually just for serious magic fans.

World Series ME in 2000 or 2001. Flop is Q98 with 2 clubs. Don't remember exact betting sequence but after 1 guy had about half his stack in he folded JT diamonds face up to the all in bet reasoning"he could be free rolling with JT of clubs." Other guy didn't show.

They're not clubs, they're puppy feet. Puppy feet will hit more than any other flush.

Multi-way limped pot. Hero has K8s in the SB

Flop 567, checks around
Turn 7 checks around
River 9, Hero bets, BB calls, UTG starts counting on his fingers, seat 1 (CO) says "Yeah just 1 card", folds to seat 1 who calls. H and UTG have the obvious 1 card straight, CO turns over KK.

UTG who's been chatting with CO all night questions the play and CO explains - "I just play my cards, I don't care what they have."

He's already dropped the wisdom that raising preflop is just "playing for luck, I like to play for skill".

I particularly like this part, as we have a guy in our long-running home game that, from time to time, counts on his fingers before calling or raising in Stud8.

And, No, it's never Hollywood.

Because the annual Toronto poker room at the CNE is only one month out of 12, many of the dealers are inexperienced. We had one this past August who thought the rule about the odd chip on tie pots going to the player left of the dealer meant seat 1 (or the equivalent) always got the extra chip.

During long sessions, I have been punch drunk enough to have to count the number of cards in sequence to confirm it is a straight (I do it in my head). Usually a sign that it is time for a walk.
