1-2 NL in casino, buyin $100 to $400.

Guy busts out and asks for $100 but doesn't bring out any money. Dealer says he needs the cash first so guy says ok make it $300. He slowly counts out 15 $20 bills on the table and asks for all greens as he's being shipped $200 green and $100 red. Player is a reg but appears to be trolling with his buyin. He gets the chips and we finally move on the next hand... when the dealer is dealing the player his second card he pauses when he notices he only has a $100 stack. Dealer asks if the $300 was on the table at the start of the hand. Player had never declared this but says it wasn't and you can check the camera. Dealer obliges and calls the floor.

Floor says he needs the full $300 if they can't confirm it was never live, he asks for table change but they say he'd still need the $300.

I don't know how soon he pocketed the other $200. He didn't declare it but there was no action where he had a $300 stack.

Dealer may not have called floor if the player wasn't trolling, but any thoughts?

That is stupid. If he only has $100 in front of him while the deal is going on, let him buy in with $100. It is not "going south" if the chips were not yet in play.

I guess arguably if he had three in front of him and looked at one card and then removed the $200 you could say the full three was in play, but first that is not likely what happened and second even if it is he really gaining any advantage here? I can;t velieve they would waste the time of the players, floor, and surveillance checking on this.

He only asked for $100 first anyway. Seems like he only wanted to play $100 but wanted the rest in his pockets so a rebuy would be easier next time. Just let him play the $100.

That's what I thought. Absurd amount of wasted time and resources for a total non-issue.

Non-issue. He declared he wanted to play $100. I saw a good dealer tonight create two separate stacks on this issue. The first was going into play and was pushed to the player. The second was going in the player's pocket and pushed separately. Made it clear to anyone paying attention at the table what was going on.

Even if he went south during a hand--obv a no-no, but imagine he did--it's cuz he didn't have a $300 hand. You were never getting that money anyway.

Did any of the other players notice if the full 300 was out? If 300 isn't out while he was being dealt his first card, the dealer should have just moved on and continued the hand with his $100 stack. This sounds like the player and dealer don't like each other too much.

Sounds like a $300 buy in with $100 actually put in play. Unless OP is leaving something out. You don't see this too often , but it happens often enough not to be considered that odd. Just my opinion.

There is only 1 state I know of that this ruling makes sense. And it isn't so much that the ruling is correct, but rather they have goofy gaming agents that once issued a ticket for a dealer allowing a player to take his change off the table.

This is stupid. The guy just busted $100 and has probably lost more than that for the day. Let it go
