All--

For some context, here's a PokerNews picture of Martin Stazko:

nate,
i enjoyed reading your tr as it reminded me of the few times i've played the main event. i watched a lot of the "live" ME coverage, but thought it would be cool to put a face to the name (if you get any tv time). ie, do you mind posting a link to a pic of yourself? or is the internet still a place for anonymity? you can pm me if that's a better option. thx.

Chilidog, Eucken--

Here is one of me from day 5 in 2010; here is another. I wore the fisherman's hat again this year, but of course I had no affiliation with Stars this time around. In this one I'm wearing the shirt that's likeliest to be on TV if I am (and you can see CTS's big stack from 2010 in the bottom left corner of the picture).

I'm probably an underdog to get TV footage. I'm >95% sure that there was no footage taken of me before day 4, and I'm >85% sure that there wasn't on day 4 either--even if there was, it is of unexciting hands and mostly against players who didn't make much of a splash. On day 5 ESPN got my two double-up hands against Lars, and at least part of a few more. On day 6 I don't think I figured in any taped hands other than my bustout hand (to Gionni Demers). My full name is Nathan Meyvis.

All my best,

Really great TR. You have an interesting, engaging writing style that captured the atmosphere of the WSOP very well. Don't underestimate your skill, you seem like a very good player. Your musings about the mental side of the game are definitely very useful, and opened my eyes to many things I had not thought of before. Nice run, and looking forward to next year.

Thanks so much, and welcome to the forums! Yours is just about the highest compliment I could receive--I'd love to be able to give people even a slight sense of what the experience was like.

Thanks! I don't think I underestimate my skill. I'm just fanatical about rationality and meta-rationality; surely I'm not the best player, right? So given that I'm not, what should my game plan be, given that there are going to be some better players around? In particular, while I'd happy to (partially) crossbook myself in the ME against a lot of online tournament pros, I'd be insane not to think that there are parts of the game they know a lot better than I do.

FWIW, some of this derives from my background in mixed games, where you need so many different game plans for any given session, and where it's usually delusional to think you're the best player in every single game in the mix.

There's also an obvious reporting bias here: I don't beat myself up over mistakes, but they still hurt a little, and pain is easy to remember.

Thanks for the nice comments (to you and everyone else).

All my best,

--Nate

Just wanted to add that this was a great TR and I have always been impressed by how well thought out your posts are.

Focault is right that there is so much to take away from this in terms of attitude and mindset. thanks again for sharing Nate.

Punkass--

Most (but not all--see my location) of my writing is schoolwork these days. As far as 2+2 goes, easily my most popular thread ever is my $5 to $1000 prop bet.

It's flattering that you're interested--thanks!

I like having a shadow cast over my face and being able to obscure my face by looking down at my hands. The fisherman's hat is most comfortable for me (partly because I have an unusually large head). I much prefer it to a baseball cap or a hoodie, and by now it has sentimental value too.

All my best,
