WPT Main Event - Seminole - Alternate List WPT Main Event - Seminole - Alternate List

Was talking with some friends who are considering making the trip to the WPT in April. The subject of alternate seating came up.

Dumb question:

For a WPT championship event, is it likely/possible that a timely registration i.e. morning of the event prior to the cards are in the air, could possibly result in you being given alternate status and sit around waiting for someone to bust? Or is this only likely in side events?

This question is probably better suited to calling the poker room directly at 813-627-6650 and asking for Tournament Director 'Ye' .. who typically comes in after 3 PM on the days he is on property.

A review of the 'live updates' from the January event shows that there were 418 entrants during Level 2 of Day 1A and it 'maxed'? out at 480 from Levels 4 through 6 before steadily increasing to days end of 705 through Level 9. Day 1B had 461 in Level 2&3 and increased from there up to 868.

What does this tell you? 'If' they actually had 60 tables set up with Dealers for 8-handed play, 'then' you would've been able to walk right into a seat until sometime during Level 3 when they maxed out at 480. How 'no one' busted during 2-3 Levels of play I don't know, but that's what the vlog showed.

Obv Day 1B will be more active with both new Players and Day 1A bust-outs, but both days went into Level 2 below the supposed max count of 480 playing at one time.

Should they go to 9-handed by then then maybe more will be able to sit at one time.

Not sure the structure, but if they really didn't start the alternates until Level 6 or 7 on Day 1A then that's a lot of play to miss out on IMO. GL

PS .. However, this must be a decent structure since 231 and 336 advanced to Day 2, which is a SUPER high number at 36% of entrants.

s.
I think OP is referring to the event at the Hollywood Hard Rock, not Tampa.

I can't imagine you would have to wait if you register before the tourney starts. Poker grinders are not early risers lol.

I played the Main Events at two series in Tampa Hard Rock in December and February. In December, I arrived about an hour after it started and got sat down immediately at a new table being created. In February, I arrived at a similar time but was #20 or so on the alternate list and had to wait 15-20 minutes for a seat to open up. The February event ended up having a few hundred more entries than December.

Wait times seems to peak between the first and second breaks, but is you register the night before or the morning of, you should be fine.

Yep .. I spoke to a couple of Players yesterday and they indicated that Hollywood has more dedicated tournament tables than Tampa does. So you should be reasonable certain to be able to walk up and go right to a seat in the first couple of levels .. certainly on Day 1A. GL
