Worst poker cheating you've seen/heard of? Worst poker cheating you've seen/heard of?

Just wondering what to look out for. For me it was hearing about a "black chip bandit" who used to swipe blackbirds of off stacks a few years ago. (Caught and prosecuted.)

Thanks,
DT

That's not cheating, that's stealing!

Yes, that's a stealing spot. Plenty of threads about Players trying to protect their stacks while still keeping big chips or cash in plain sight while fending off scalpers.

We had a Player who was banned from 4-5 rooms for both adding and removing chips in the middle of a hand.

I've really never experienced a lot of angling, much less flat out cheating during my sessions that hasn't already been exposed on this site in other threads.

I guess team play is what bothers me the most. When it goes beyond soft play that really bothers me.

In today's poker world I think it's really hard to actually cheat per se in the game.

The best advice on this site is to just don't rush anything at the table. Always pause, verify action with Dealer/Opponent and then act. It's the quick calling or quick exposure of hands that opens the doors up for anglers whether it be the bettor or caller. GL

Back in the '80s, there was a rule that said a bet, or a call required chips to be released into the pot. What some people would do is say "call" to get the guy to show his hand. If they won, they put the chips in and take the pot. If they lost, they just mucked.

Back then you ran the real risk of getting crap beat out of you or worse…much more risk than today.

Very few got away with it more than once.

Worst I have heard of woul be Mike apostle. Easy to avoid be a victim is don’t play where “hole cameras” are in use.

Another but with less direct affect on any particular player, there was the Boomtown Casino in Harvey, LA (NOLA) BBJP deck stacking.
https://www.fox8live.com/story/37472...dealer-player/

But the ones you actually need to defend against would be (imo) reusing to pay after losing, hiding big chips, adding/removing chips during hand (esp all ins.) the biggest that we “all” protect against and likely have been victimized by but don’t know it arehole card peaking. Either alone or by teams.

I used to work in a poker room that was at a dog track. We had 2 players who would hold the racing program over the table and trade cards with each other.

Worst cheating I have ever seen/heard about was at the Majestic Star in Gary Indiana many, many years ago.

A dealer was in cahoots with a player. Whenever there was action with two aces/kings and or Queens exposed in a hand. They would do a false shuffle and give their friend the better hand and someone else the lesser hand on the next deal. So inevitably aces (or kings) would get it in preflop against kings (or queens). Probability would take over and the friend would benefit 80/20.

Have heard the above story before .. Dealer would mix up who got 'coolered' as well. "Luckiest guy in poker!" Not sure how it was eventually discovered or how it was 'resolved'. GL

I went to Aruba for my 50th birthday to play poker. In the 20/40 LHE game there was a couple who were definitely doing suspicious things. Every night I played with them they would eventually move so they were sitting together. They acted drunk and like they were having fun on vacation. But once they were sitting together they started winning big.

They also started having conversations with the owner of the club to become partners. So it looked like they were not actually professional players but business people on a trip.

They were both friendly with all of the other players. Until I joked about them playing footsie under the table as the reason they wanted to sit next to each other. Then they both reacted with extreme hostility towards me even though I hadn't been insinuating cheating.

By the 4th time I played with them I was sure something was up and I quit the game and played a different game in the room. I refused to play with them again. When I spoke with the club owner about my concerns, he was clear that he had concerns as well that something wasn't right.

I read an article about a couple a few years later that sounded like them. Every now and then their shoulders would dip simultaneously. According to the article they were exchanging cards under the table.

Not in a casino, but there was a game with a full set of marked cards in a motel room in Cherokee NC. It was a game for/by dealers there to work a tournament. Great explanation of how to spot marked cards:

And the guy had the audacity to actually post about it in this forum!

Immediately from Villain: "You're a cheater."

I remember the Partouche poker tour one when it happened, so blatant. Partners signaling each other their holdings by touching places on their face. Guy folds AK to his partners AA preflop.

No. That's what the smiley face thing was for; on the long shot that someone would think I would seriously consider a player not announcing that he saw a flashed card until the hand was over as the worst poker cheating Ive ever heard of. Obviously that distinction would go to the guy who acts like he is stacking betting chips when he is next to act but then just checks when it gets to him. **** those cheating cheaters!

Somewhere around the 2005 time frame I recall a lot of talk/posting about Men the master having a team of players in tourneys that would dump chips to him or otherwise collude in play when in hands with him. Also, I recall a case, I think at the Borgata, where a guy had a ton of tourney chips he introduced into a big tourney. I cant recall if they were counterfeit chips or if they had been lifted from smaller tourneys. There was something about him trying to flush chips down the hotel room toilet that got him caught.

Sorry but at the moment I cant really recall the details.

stay away from home games - there is almost no repercussions for dealers/hosts/players if they get caught cheating unlike in a casino.

stay away from online - > 50% chance you are going to be playing against bots/someone using real time assistance in any given session.

Short version of the story:

Seat 3 buys $100 in chips from Seat 1 (who is racked up to leave) mid hand to add to Seat 3's all in while action was on the other side of the table.

I don't cheat but if you put a gun to my head and told me to either run a crooked home game or cheat in a casino, I think it might be safer to pick the casino.

Online worst cheating…

UB had superusers and gave me a refund; now sites probably have super users and nothing happens

Live worst cheating…

Guys brought a device/app on their phone which allowed them to know when they were dealt a winner. Basically live superusing.
