Borgata is taking online reservations starting June 1st. Naturally, I booked every weekend till 7/24. Rumor has it that poker room will be open but games will be 6-max. Common 2020, one time!!!

Temperature checks at the door.
Six Handed Max games (with no reductions in rake)
Gloves/Masks at tables
13 out of 52 tables will be open (quarter capacity)

I am sure they will be going through a very deep clean before opening as well. I am interested to see the final result... going to need a trip report!

That's surprising! Everything I'm hearing is bad news regarding poker opening any time soon.

I believe they were 1 of the last rooms in the US to close (if not THE last room) so I'm not really surprised.

I would imagine that Orange County north of Orlando would be very close behind, unless their 'county' has tighter restrictions in place. Paying rent in a strip mall can't be cheap!

I had never heard of a 'Mayor' of a county before this all started. But whatever county Orlando is in actually has a person with that title .. and I assume it's a full time job. GL

Interesting that they have 52 tables. They should name them after each card of a deck.

So the dealers will be wearing gloves?

I would guess it would be very difficult to deal with gloves on.

Gloves are a weird one. Gloves are useful if you're taking them off after dealing with one person and then putting new ones on before interacting with someone new, especially people known to be sick, like a doctor would.

They are basically useless (to you and others) if you just wear a single set of them as you interact with multiple people.

You don't absorb the virus through the skin, so having gloves on doesn't protect your hands at all. The danger is in touching something contaminated and then touching your eyes, mouth, etc. And that danger seems to be identical whether you're touching them with your ungloved hands or with your contaminated gloved hands.

So, IANAD, but it seems to me that dealers wearing gloves while dealing would be completely ineffective. They should disinfect them with sanitizer or a hand washing when moving between tables though, to avoid spreading contamination from table to table. (So should players, but unfortunately any chips they bring will also carry contaminants.)

If you want to wear gloves because you don't ever touch your face, and you want to be able to take them off and not wash your hands when you leave the table/game and head to your car or other safe space, I guess that is at least plausible, but you might as well just sanitize/wash your hands instead.

Masks on the other hand are something that everyone benefits from wearing.

I'd expect the dealer to disinfect after every hand. I'd hope that sanitizer is available to all players at their seats.

I assume no more eating food at the poker table.

I wonder how they will handle beverages? You obviously need to move your mask to take a drink. Will it just be no beverages at the table either?

Speaking as a recreational player, I don't see me going back until there's a vaccine. Today's news reports that a mutant variant of the corona virus is much more deadly and more contagious than the first one.

So no..if I can't play poker and stay alive then I'm going to have to live with the memories of when poker was the bomb.

I keep running through my mind all the players I know that poker was their life. They got up in the morning and played poker all day every day.

The guy that moved from NYC to Connecticut to play stud poker every day.

The guy and his wife who played poker every day and every night and had the room comps down to a science, running from Philly mid-week to Borgata every week-end. The wife would collect the free drink coupons from the sports book next door to the poker room. Feel bad for her having to pay her own booze bill now.

The guy with Parkinson's who lived alone and whose only life was Borgata poker room.

The pro player with his mistress that rendevoused always in casinos all over the country, staying in a comped room for a night or two. Wife is either happier now or more miserable that she doesn't get a break from his cheating ass anymore.

The guys from NYC that would descend en masse from NYC to Borgata every weekend to play poker and sports bet.

All the wannabe young gun rounders who tried to gauge out a paycheck at the tables. Do they have jobs now? Or do their parents have to support them even more now.

The one poker room manager whom I detested, how is he handling the loss of his power and privilege, gone in a moment. I even feel badly for him.

All the poker room personnel and all employees that lost their livelihood, those are the people who I feel for. I hope they get back to earning a paycheck real soon. I hope they don't lose their homes as well.

I wonder how they're handling the live poker drought?

I feel badly for me and if I'm hurting, I know they're dying.

I hope poker rocks live again soon. It's just so sad.

Gloves have two purposes (and I think you covered on this). They discourage people from touching their face. And they provide a sacrificial layer that can be discarded when transitioning from an exposed to clean area.

If the dealers are wearing masks, and train themselves to wash hands every time they leave the floor (which they should anyways....poker chips are disgusting), I am not sure gloves offer any net advantage.

In case you missed it, this mutant variant is the one that's been in the US for 6+ weeks already. The mutant variant isn't relatively new, just the discovery of that fact is.

The Kawasaki mutation is just now hitting the news and that is what I was referring to, the connection between it and COVID-19.

Playing in gloves sounds hard. Disposable gloves will cause hand discomfort after 2 hours at most. cloth gloves will make it hard to peel your cards, use your phone etc.

So much for Derby Lane in the Tampa area being one of the first rooms to open. After announcing a few days ago that they would open on the 8th for dog racing and the 11th of May for poker, they announced Monday night that both the poker room and the dog racing will remained closed to the public. They will run the dogs, but no spectators, just website betting.

My room (Oxford Downs) intends to open as soon as Phase 2 is implemented in Florida. Looking like that’ll be somewhere around May 18th. Phase 2 will allow for 75% capacity and we will run 7-handed games for poker and 3-person max for table games. Employees will wear masks on the gaming floor, optional for guests.
