I've been at tables a few times with people in wheelchairs or scooters that had some muscular/posture issues (real chronic issues, not just a fatty on wheels at WalMart) and their inability to not show off their cards has bugged me. I was at Rio years back and the guy next to me would pick up his cards and I had to really look the other way to avoid seeing them.

Next time I might just look but I was feeling moral and noble each time.

Did the people in wheel chairs always limp into a pot?

Well, people in wheelchairs always seem to come along regardless of the action.

That's because they won't stand up for themselves.

He's now switched to regular white vinegar which doesn't smell as much but instead of using it on his hands he's drinking it straight from the bottle. I'm not talking those fancy bottled drinks that contain some vinegar along with other things - he's chugging straight vinegar like it's water.
asian? they do drink vinegar in some regions

This only marginally fits this thread, but I don't know where else to put it.

Have you ever seen such a nice and kind poker player that it just puts a smile on your face?

I was at Borgata this week and a MAWG reg was seated beside me. A waitress came around and he called to her by name. From what I overheard, he had last seen her last week when she wasn't feeling so well. He inquired as to her health and that of her kids who had also had a bug of some sort. They chatted back and forth for a good 5 minutes. He complimented her on how hard she works and that he could tell that last week she had been struggling. I couldn't help but follow their convo because she was standing directly behind me.

I thought, wow, this is a very nice guy, trying to be kind to the hard working staff. He asked if she had gone to the doctor and she said no, that she just went home and took a long hot shower....

And that's when he sprung his trap...

I guess the real him could not longer be contained. He picked up a $25 chip and handed it to her, saying, "If you ever want some company, I'd love to join you in that shower."

Wait, whut? There was no hint of humor in his voice that this was merely a jest between friends. She immediately walked away and didn't take the green chip.

Stay classy, dude.

I bet I know who that guy was....
Was he balding and loud and brash when not chatting up the waitresses?

years ago I was sitting at a table with an older guy in his 50s-60s? and every once in a while he would make a quip about having a bunch of Viagra in his pocket when playing a hand, something about making a hard decision, kinda amusing but not offensive.

After a while, one of the dealers came up after she dealt to us and dropped a piece of paper with her number on it and whispered something in his ear and left.

Mid 30s, early 40s at most, not bad.

He looked like a dog that finally caught a car.Total bewildered.

Got real quiet the rest of his session.

a senior electrical engineer got fired from our company (medium sized electrical utility) for making a fairly tame comment about Viagra in a meeting. A woman complained to management and he was let go!

He should have sued for wrongful termination.

I've previously posted about a crazy home game that resulted in a penis placed on the table, a corvette assaulted with a hammer, and an arrest for 1000s of opiate pills. See msg 1855 in this thread.

This weekend at a game in a poker room where the topic turned to weird things said at the poker table, I was reminded of this category killer, something said beyond weird, not funny, horrendous in every way. It happened in that same crazy home game 20 years ago.

A mildly drunk player was using both arms to rake in a huge pot and as he did so, he boasted, "Oh my God! This is better than sex with a 10 YO boy."

His friend, who was also a single dad, who had kids the same age and they got their kids together for play dates, laughed and told him he was F-ed Up.

Apparently the guy was known for saying outrageous things just to draw a reaction. But wow oh freakin wow.

In most states, unless this guy has some sort of contract, that might be wrong, but it isn't wrongful termination. The employer can claim the comment was creating a hostile work environment and has evidence of a complaint by another employee.

I don't like it, but it's not illegal.

I had an employee make a complaint about me when I quoted a Monty Python Holy Grail comment in answer to I had done over the weekend, "rape cattle and stampede women." Just for the record, I've never done either.

Hedley Lamarr: That's not much of a crime.

DEKE01: Through the Vatican?

Hedley Lamarr: [smiling] Kinkyyyy.

Single such comment with no other history is not creating hostile work environment.

I would be surprised if this one comment alone with no other factors was why he was let go. More likely was the final straw if it was part of the reason at all. But it is certainly possible a poor HR would make such a call. If they did he would likely win such a claim.

What is the basis of your claim? As an employer I can fire you for almost anything outside of protected classes ( race, religion etc) in a right to work state as long as an employment agreement of some sort is not in place.

In the 90s I had a boss who wanted me to fire a guy for being gay. I refused and HR said it was legal. I still didn't fire him. I've been out of the game for years, don't know if that may have changed legally.

I sometimes say off-color things at the poker table. But I have always kept it squeaky clean at the office. The upside is a small chuckle among friends. The downside is going to without a job. It's unfair that we live like this. But I'm not punting $$$$Thousands to express myself. In the office you're not "you". Nobody is. You're a piece of the corporate machine.

I think the weirdest thing I have ever seen at the poker table was this guy who quite literally ate his food using his feet. He was wearing sandals and was using a fork in between his toes in order to eat his food. And yet when he played poker, he was using his hands to fold and muck the cards. I took a video discreetly because I could not believe my eyes. I could not believe that this was real.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit.

We live in a world today that kowtows to the lowest common denominator. Whatever could possibly offend one person is deemed to be offensive enough to warrant termination.

(Mods: If this is considered too political for this forum then please delete)

I offer as a prime example the firing of a a school principle for showing a picture of "David" to an elementary school class because some idiot thought something widely considered one of the greatest pieces of art in history is pornographic.
