Got a buddy that is starting to play pool allot, taking it serious and improving. We get out of the closing pool hall, and he say lets go to the card game. I figure out he's never been there, so I think sure, let's go.
We get there and have to wait because of a full table. Luckily they have a pool table, so we kill about forty five minutes before I get a seat. I play another half hour before he sits at the 3 seat. He buys into the 1-2nl for 200, and before long starts displaying some fishy tendencies. Once he slow played KK from early position, then called a small raise that two others called at the end w his overpair. Calling, calling, calling.
Anyways, he gets into a hand with the chip leader, who has over a thousand. MB sees a two paint, all diamond flop , calls, sees a broadway card, calls, and then on the river, CL bets sixty after a fourth diamond hits, about a pot sized bet. MB has about 120 behind, calls.
CL turns over, reluctantly, 2,4d, for a flopped flush. And with all the confidence that was ever seen at a showdown, MB turns over two red cards 2h/Jh!
People are stunned, whole table silent, and he says, " I got a straight."
The dealer recovers and pushes the pot to CL, declaring the flush winner.
Another dealer is playing and when people start recovering looks at me and says " have you gotten your referral bonus yet? " Im dying laughing inside but manage no, not yet, I was wondering if you guys did something like that.
The next day I dug out Phil Gordons little green book of poker and gave it to him. We all started somewhere, right?
