It is a matter of how much risk you want to take. Leaving where you live involves some level of risk. You could have run into a tree on the drive there and die. However for most people, they are willing to take that risk. FWIW, moving away from him staying at the same table really didn't help you much at all. Viruses spread quickly. It is a matter minutes difference in sitting next to him vs. being across the table. Unless it is a big room with HEPA air filters, moving to another table doesn't help much either. He's already exposed the other areas.
If I wanted to reduce the risk of getting what he had, I'd have an N95 mask in the car that I'd get if that situation came up or just go home. The key with the mask is that you have to put it on properly and leave it there. You can't wear it like a chin strap. If the mask is working properly, you should have some level of difficulty in breathing compared to normal. The vast majority of people won't do that.
I'm a rec player and don't have to play. If I was sick, I'd just stay home. I'm a 15 minute drive from two poker rooms, so it is always available. If you're addicted, you're not going to care much about others.
