Update on poker in Vicksburg, Mississippi Update on poker in Vicksburg, Mississippi

The last information I could find from March of 2009 with a search for Vicksburg sounded a bit ominous about the future of poker there. What is the latest? Does Ameristar still have a room? I'll be travleing through the area for the first time on a Sunday in mid August and was hoping to find a game.

Thanks,

Patty

Website says yes http://www.ameristar.com/Vicksburg_G...oker_Room.aspx, but I wouldn't trust a website.

You can call em at 866.MORE FUN or 601.638.1000.

Ed, you out there? What is happening Sunday nights.

Ameristar's poker room is still going. The room still has lingering problems, but is hanging on despite mismanagement. As best I can tell, the player base in the area is too strong to allow it to die.

Weekdays, there's some weak LHE action, usually one table of regulars until mid-afternoon. Sometimes another game starts, sometimes a 1/2 NLHE game starts, but NL typically starts mid-afternoon or early evening. On a typical weekday night you'll see maybe two each 1/2, 2/5 NL with another 2 or 3 LHE games.

On Fridays, there's a regular 5/10 limit O8 game with a kill and sometimes it spills over to Saturday.

Some nights there's a 5/10 NLHE game, most often Tuesday, Thursdays and weekends.

The room has about 10 tables and fills them all sometimes on weekends. Sunday runs about in the 50% range.

There's definitely a market in Vicksburg, but management only grudgingly has a poker room and has staffed it with people who can barely operate a stapler. They've been open over a year now, but haven't shown much in they way of improvement. I want to play there, but sometimes, I'll drive up to 200 miles out of my way to play in another room.

After seeing the thread on 'Dealer exposing cards", it jogged my memory of an ongoing problem at the Ameristar in Vicksburg, MS.

That's about the technique I saw a dealer use, but the position of the players were reversed. In this case, it was the dealer attempting to discretely flash an uncalled hand for the benefit of a respected regular.

This happened at Ameristar in Vicksburg, where the several dealers have the habit of peeking at mucked hands. That's just bad form, especially since they are allowed to play in their own room.

Thread bump. I am traveling out there this week. Still the same situation? Is there somewhere else to play in Vicksburg? What is the rake structure? What is the NL action like?

Going to be in Vicksburg area for a few days and was wondering how the Ameristar game is. I know it's the only game in town. Thanks!

I passed through 3 months ago and played for about 4 hours. Great action at the table, dealers were bad but not quite as bad as when I passed through a year earlier. The one fast dealer was flashing cards and looking at mucked hands.

Just watch out for angle shooters and you'll be ok. If you plan on playing more than one session you might consider a detour up through Tunica or down through the Gulf Coast.

Passing through Sunday en route from NOLA to Memphis, staying at Ameristar and gonna get a session in. Pretty pumped to play in some random Mississippi casinos tbh, not my usual comfy British person place.

Interested to hear what the action is.

Went there once a couple of years ago on the way from Memphis/Tunica to NOLA and didn’t like it at all. Came through Jackson on the way and wouldn’t have believed that city is located in the US.

Since then we always go straight from NOLA to Tunica (or vice versa) or take a detour to Biloxi if the weather is nice enough. But would be willing to give Vicksburg another try if recommended.

Since COVID, Ameristar is a part-time cardroom. Open weekends, and only at night. Mainly populated by local regs.
Hoping it will rebound and get a tournament series running.
