Me and my GF just finished school this past month and are looking to take a week long vacation. We are comped at any Caesars property and she wants to go somewhere besides Vegas for a change. I dont travel much besides all around California so I was looking for a little bit of advise on what a good city to visit is in YOUR opinion. Anything from attractions to how many poker games run during the week would be useful. I'd rather get a bit of a personal opinion instead of the things ive found online so far.

Here is a list of some properties we are interested in.

AC
Baltimore
Philidelphia
Cherokee
Hammond
Southern Indiana
Gulf coast
Bossier
Counsil bluffs
Kansas City
Tunica

Any info would help. Thanks!

If you're looking for sight seeing as well as poker, there's very little touristy things to see in most of those places except for Baltimore and Philly.

Have you considered New Orleans, or do you not receive discounts there? Even if you don't already receive discounts there, you should call and talk to a host.

The food in that city is some of the best in the country, the weather in the fall is usually pleasant, and there's plenty to see and do.

Thanks for the heads up. Great food is definitely a plus. I'll have my hopes up if we end up in NO.

Also, Baltimore and Philly are fairly short train rides from D.C. and NYC respectively, meaning it would be easy to spend a day sightseeing in either of those cities.

I would say Baltimore or philly because you can do things other than poker with the gf.

I love Atlantic City but it’s kinda scummy. AC has great shopping for how seedy the area is (Tangier outlets). AC would be a better place to visit in the summer also with the boardwalk/ small section of beach. I would say stay at the borgata and play there if you visit AC as it’s easily the nicest casino property in AC with great dining + nightlife at the property.

Maybe also consider Ledyard, ct area? Foxwoods/ Mohegan sun are close by. I’ve never been to Mohegan but Foxwoods seems to always have great cash game action. The surrounding area doesn’t seem to have a lot going on though.

I'll 2nd New Orleans. Its a really cool city to visit. Lots to see and do and IMO, the NL at Harrahs is one of of the softest games in the Country.

They play 1/3 and you can match the biggest stack at the table so it plays deep as the day goes on. There's a good stream of tourists coming in and the regs are mostly awful as well.

I love New Orleans. So much culture, so much food. If you are young and into drinking, they do a lot of that there too, anything from high dollar mixologist curated drinks to Huge Ass Beers.

I love nature and scenery, so I would put Tahoe on you list. Because you say you travel California, maybe Tahoe is already in your rotation. if not, it is worth considering. I like it better in the winter. Ski during the day, gamble at night.

+1 for NOLA.

Whatever you do, don’t spend a week in Tunica. That’s depressing. If you want to go to Mississippi, pick Biloxi and spend some time at the beach.

Although the beach in Biloxi is right next to the highway basically for the whole stretch and leads into a heavily polluted gulf so as far as beach vacations go I could think of better. The poker action is kinda meh too. NOLA is nice and good action in the room (but it's just one medium-sized room)

Cherokee is VERY touristy if you are into outdoors. Right now is a big time season for them... Cooled down from summer, leaves changing, still nice temps and while I have not done so, I suspect there is good hunting and fishing. Harrahs is on Bravo so you can check that out.

Not on the list but a CET property is New Orleans. Now is also a great time of year to Nola. Lots of stuff to do and see in Nola. Can also hop over to Biloxi for a night if you want. No poker at Harrahs Biloxi but there are three rooms there...Beau Rivage, IP and GN. Beau is the best but GN is walking distance from Harrahs but a longish walk. Beau and IP are also on Bravo. Biloxi is Harrahs GC

Tunica is also on Bravo Memphis is near by. Some stiff there depends on how long the trip is.

Bossier doesn't have much beyond the casinos. And DFW is not very close. There is good hunting and fishing around there. My wife killed a nice deer near there this time of year a few years ago. Unfortunately she did so with her car

There is nothing in Bossier, and DFW is about 3 hours away.

If you want to consider Dallas a possible destination, Choctaw and Winstar are both about an hour to an hour and a half out of DFW. The daily action at Winstar is pretty decent, and Choctaw has 4 or more circuit events a year (WSOPc is happening in a few weeks). During the circuit events, the action is nice.

100% This. Smoky Mountains this time of year are incredible. I think leaves are peaking next week.

Fresh Air, Hiking, Fantastic property and casino. Unbelievable fall colors in the mountains. Day rip to Asheville for Beer , arts, Biltmore, Weed. etc etc

Please dont waste your comp on some run down property in a dirty city

Obviously you know your girlfriend, so it may not be the case in your instance .... but I would suggest that when the Girlfriend says she wants to go somewhere other than Vegas for a change .... that she might be saying "Lets not go to a casino for change."

just something to consider

She definitely wants to do things besides be at a casino but she agreed that it was smart to use our comps and save the little money we have for other things.

LOL

If you change your mind, I'd suggesting throwing Seattle in the mix. There's a little gambling and a lot of cool stuff.

Did he move from a small town in Missouri/Kansas/Nebraska/Iowa?

Not saying KC is a boring city, I actually like living there, but if you're coming from a big city, there's not that much exciting stuff to do besides eating great BBQ and watching sports.

In Vegas I would suggest using Scoot City Tours to experience Red Rock Nat'l Park ($250/2 person) and take a look at the Go City coupon book offerings. These should be booked in advance since they may cost more when 'on site'. They include lots of the sites (wax museum, ferris wheel, Stratosphere Tower and more)

We enjoyed our day trip to Hoover Dam even though it was HOT that day. We couldn't fit the Grand Canyon into an easy day but not high on the list for my wife either. GL

I'm going to be alone in Vegas for a week this January for a conference and poker. I've been looking at the various half-day van trips to the dam.

Yes .. It was more of a half day than 'day' at the dam. We took a bus tour and the driver was a wealth of information as well as a hoot during the drive. Most of the tours in Vegas will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the main bus that you will be on for the real tour.

Interesting fact about the Hoover dam ... About 100 people died during the dam project. The first being one of the surveyors sent to figure out where to even put the dam in the first place (they had 6 sites before picking one). He fell out of a boat and drowned in the river. The last being a worker who fell into one of the intake towers just days before they were going to begin filling it ... He was the surveyor's son!! GL

Nobody brought up Hammond (proximity to Chicago) as an option? Chicago's a great city to visit. New Orleans still the winner though. But I guess OP will enjoy Vegas again...

I don't play Hammond much, but from the grumbling I hear from 'many' there aren't any comped rooms tied in with this casino ... and certainly no hotel on site. No one is quite sure why they haven't been able to expand. Might be quicker to just park a cruise ship out back.

Obviously Chicago is an attraction but I assume OP is looking for 'easier' accommodations. GL
