Hello, i wanted to ask the community for tips for good cardroom locations in the US, ive taken a few trips from Norway to East Coast card rooms but want to explore more. My options are restricted to certain parts of the US because i can only fly to cities that SAS flies to. As for domestic traveling i can survive like 3 hours of greyhound or 1-2 hour domestic flights.

Boston (ive been to Foxwoods/Mohegan)

Miami

New York (Ive been to AC)

San Fransisco

Los Angeles

Chicago

New York City has underground clubs and home games but no legal card rooms. You'd have to go upstate, AC, or elsewhere to find one.

What kind of stakes are you looking for? If you want 2/5 and under you'll be able to find it almost anywhere so start with whatever city looks interesting for other tourist activities. For higher stakes or non-NLH some would be better than others.

If you go to Chicago the best poker room in the area is Horseshoe in Hammond, IN. It's probably a 20-30 min drive from wherever you are in the city. They spread 1-2 NL, 2-5 NL, 5-10 NL, 1-2 PLO, 5-5 PLO, 5-10 PLO, 3-6 LH, and a huge mixed game I think it's 50-100. Great room, lots of traffic.

Yeah, mostly 2/5, and 1/2 if the cap is high. The best would be a place with nice nature, hikes etc.

Cherokee, NC would provide hiking, rafting, nature, ect. Not sure if you can get there though. $1/2 $200 and $2/5 $500 or table max

How much time do you have and would you consider a road trip in a rental car?
Would you consider flying into one location and leaving from another?
You don't even mention Vegas?
Not very much 'nature' in any of the cities you list?
What time of year is your trip?

If you wanted to do a serious road trip you may want to consider ...

1) Fly into Chicago (Horseshoe Hammond, IN) .. daily 2/5, some 5/10, can be pretty crazy

2) Detroit (Motor City/MGM for 2/5) ... with Firekeepers (deep 1-2) in between (Battle Creek, MI)

3A) Toledo, OH to Cleveland, OH or
3B) Toledo, OH to Columbus, OH

4A) Pittsburgh, PA to Philadelphia, PA
4B) Pittsburgh, PA to Baltimore/Washington (National Harbor is less than 2 years old)


I guess if you will have somewhat limited resources (or time) once here, then consider Baltimore/Washington area and play both MGM National Harbor and Maryland Live. There is plenty of action 7 days a week at both casinos. GL

San Francisco itself has nothing, but within an hour's drive there is Oaks in Oakland/Emeryville, Lucky Chances in Colma, but I'm most familiar with M8trix and Bay 101 in San Jose.

The San Jose rooms are similar (and very close to each other) in low stakes, with Bay 101 having more LHE games. Both have deep stacked 2/3/5 (2 is the button blind) NL that is usually action-packed.

There is some "nature" nearby on Highway 280 that goes between SF and San Jose, and the ocean is an hour or two drive, but the Lake Tahoe area has better nature, 4 hour's drive from there.

Also Artichoke Joe's in San Bruno, Graton in Rohnert Park, California Grand in Pacheco, and a bunch of smaller rooms (Pete's, Livermore, Palace, etc). Some of the Indian casinos (Red Rock, Cache Creek) are arguably within 1 hour.

Clearly pig4bill is not a nature lover.

Across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco is the Marin Headlands - Angel Island, Muir Woods, Stinson Beach, Point Reyes.

If you're going to drive 4 hours, Yosemite National Park is about 1.36 zillion times better than Tahoe.

The SFBA is probably second to Denver and better than Seattle in terms of nature near a poker city. The poker in the SFBA isn't special but the nature is.

Why can you only fly to cities served by SAS? Seems like once you got TO the States, everything is fair game via connecting flights, even if it means using a different airline. Plenty of people take trips that require changing terminals or airlines...

Just to clarify, the reason for only flying SAS is that i have a deal with them that makes flying to the US very, very cheap. Dont mind domestic flights or greyhounds as long as they are not to long, the stay will probably be 1-3 weeks.

I dont really wanna roadtrip around, rather stay in one place the whole time and get to know it really good.

I didnt mention Vegas, and i probably shouldve, because i just came back from a month of 2/5 and 1/2 (at GN) grinding.

Well then I would bounce between MGM Harbor Shores and Maryland Live then. You may want to check out their specific threads here on this site (And the Bravo App) and ask some questions about transportation between the two. From the outside looking in, neither is 'convenient' to the center of other attractions you may want to take in. GL

Thanks for the useful tips, guys! I'm just an amateur but I often play poker wth friends on weekends. Recently I read here about Swedish casinos and started playing poker online to impove my gaming skills. Want to become a pro player one day.

If nature is a key factor for you, I think you peaked at Mohegan and Foxwoods. Everything else you listed is pretty urban.

How about Minnesota? Many casinos, Canterbury and Running Aces being the biggest. Lots of nature nearby, boat ride on the St Croix or Mississippi, short drive to the North Shore of Lake Superior or just walk/bike around the Lakes in Minneapolis.

The only downfall is that they are so many Norwegians, it might just feel like home (including yours truly)

Minnesota has a lot to offer. The Guthrie, tons of parks that are all over and walkable / bikeable. Restaurants are very good to excellent if you're a foodie. Streets are clean. Traffic is better than most places except for construction areas. Temps are good for summer, though upper 80s can happen and even low 90s occasionally.

Running Aces has very good tournaments, with lots of levels especially given the buy ins below $100. Cashwise, the spread limit Omaha Hi 5-100 is a lot of fun. Very different than PLO. Can get crazy, with raise wars preflop you can get over $1000 in the pot. No limit is not legal in Minnesota. You can play limit at up to usually 4-8 and spread limit he is 2-100.

Canterbury gets around the $100 bet limitation by running no limit 'tournaments' for 2/3 hours with a $300 and more buy in. Blinds go up once and you get cash back for your chips left at the end. You can also rebuy. So really a cash game. Canterbury also spreads bigger limit hold em, and mixed games run, usually at 40-80.

Both places generally have at least one or two tables 24/7. Players and dealers are very friendly and tolerant, even of 'interesting' personalities.

Car rentals are a little high right now, $60 day plus $30 in taxes if you rent at the airport. Hotels can be had below $100 near the pokers but a bit more downtown. Transportation is good around the cities and Uber / Lyft is fast and cheap. Downtown to the casinos is about $45.

If you want to camp there is lots of wilderness a few hours drive north. Great place for a longer visit which includes, but is not limited to pokers.
