Re: Tipping CONTAINMENT thread.

the caddie is an idiot for turning down the extra 15k

and if they had some deal in place that said he got x% which worked out to 5k then he's a scumbag for bitching about not getting more.

Re: Tipping CONTAINMENT thread.

"5 grand is a pretty good week," says the guy who just made $1.3 million in a week, and who probably charges about $50k to do a 4 hour meet and greet. What a rube.

The bottom line for me is that tipping a guy $1000 on a $1.3 million win is chintzy to the extreme. This guy probably rounds up to $100 on a $97 bar tab and thinks that is fine.

If his regular caddie had been on the bag he would have been on the hook for a 10% win bonus that is standard for most full time caddie agreements. Instead he took all but $1k of that money and stuck it in his already overstuffed pocket.

Tossing the guy a grand and thinking that there wouldn't be some blowback is a pretty dense. If he'd opened his mind and his wallet a little he could have gained a ton of free publicity and good will. Instead, he looks like a heel and he can probably kiss a lot of endorsement money goodbye.

You really should read the article so you have the facts before offering your opinion. That's not what happened.

Quoting from the article on DEADSPIN:
"the terms of Ortiz’s employment had been worked out in advance of the tournament, and that the caddie was only actually supposed to make $4,000; the extra $1,000 was a bonus Kuchar gave him for helping him win the tournament."

In case you don't know, this type of bonus is commonly known as a "tip."

A "tip" is defined by the Oxford English Dictonary as "A sum of money given to someone as a reward for a service."

I stand by my previous post.

Lol at paying now. Kuchar literally handled this the worst possible way at every turn. No one would have said a word if he pays $20k to begin, now he pays $50k and everyone will still see him as a cheap dick.

Re: Tipping CONTAINMENT thread.

If you tip you are not smart. Did you tip the doctor when he saved your mother's life? No right?
Then YTF are you tipping a casino dealer that hates ALL of his customers. Some he hates less but he hates because he is not rich and the customers are

You can't just make stuff like this up out of thin air and expect people to accept it as fact.

Also, calling the $1k a "tip" (or a bonus) on $1.3M is insane. There's no established standard for the transaction that occurred between the caddie and the golfer--at least not that's mentioned in that article. Furthermore, if you really wanted to call it a "tip" on a particular amount, it would have to be on $4k. The price of the service rendered by the caddie was established in advance.

Re: Tipping CONTAINMENT thread.

Isn't it common to tip 10-20% at the restaurant? $4K x Y% = $1K

Certainly you'd think that a long-time Pro would've handled the spot a little better. But all of these guys are trying to get to their planes, they were in Mexico as well, and it was an unexpected victory. We can all be disappointed in how it was handled, but yet should not be surprised at the 'hard' side of the business either.

Not sure what I would've offered, but I'm fairly comfortable saying that I would've made sure that is was well beyond the original agreement ... especially after Kuchar admitted that 'the caddie' helped both with course layout and keeping him calm on the course during Sunday's round. GL

PS ... Isn't it just wonderful that we say 'the caddie' and 'regular caddie' and yet pin Kuchar down by his proper name!!

This guy serious?

Doctor doesn’t work for tips, hence why he charges your insurance $3000 for blood work.

And LOL at casino dealer hating ALL his customers, and all casino dealers not being rich and every customer BE rich? Look around the casino next time you’re there, you’ll notice that 80% of the people that gamble on a daily basis are the broke ones.

casino dealers don't hate all of their customers. they're fine with the little guy betting 10 bucks a hand not tipping much. but they're a bunch of entitled pricks when someone wins big.

Re: Tipping CONTAINMENT thread.

Looking for some info. I'm playing a $300 + $40 tournament this weekend with a $10 dealer add on for 33% more chips. Assuming I cash, am I expected to tip the dealers upon cashout?

Re: Tipping CONTAINMENT thread.

Dealers always expect a tip. If I am pre tipping whether I win or lose along with everyone else, then I am not tipping if I cash.

I would treat it like a restaurant bill that added an auto-gratuity. I generally do not tip on top of that unless something was exceptional.

If you win $5,000 and think a $10 tip is sufficient, then no need to tip any extra. You are tipping up front for the service provided to you, win or lose. If you win, then it is up to you to decide if your original tip was enough based on the amount you have won. Personally, my original $10 tip would only be good enough until I have a net profit of at least maybe $200. Anything above that, I am going to add on to that original tip. If none of the winners ever tipped at the end and all the dealers got was the original $10 from everyone, they would be better off bagging groceries in most cases.

Re: Tipping CONTAINMENT thread.

Here's a question for tournament dealers and Floors:
Say I run deep in a tournament, like a top 5 finish and a 5-figure score. By percentage, what is the minimum tip I can make where you will not diss me or think ill of me? Like, I'm not tipping enough to become a legend or anything, but nobody on the staff will think I'm a jerk.
