ten years ago i'd agree with you.
but i've been at the table when someone won a few thousand, tipped a few hundred and still heard dealers complain once that person left.
i've seen them openly complain about 50 dollar tips when someone wins 1k.
it's pretty sickening.

i won about 3k in treasure islands high limit s17 double deck game, had just colored up as the pit was giving me the boot, while at the same time the dealer was banging on the rack bc i didn't tip them. the entire scene was pretty funny.

my 2 prior sessions at TI I lost about 5000 combined- and guess what those dealers tipped me then?

i will sometimes put up small tips for the dealer as i play but tipping hundreds of dollars at the end - no thanks.

at the orleans i was putting up small tokes in a double deck game and if i lost a few hands in a row the dealer would ask me if i wanted a shuffel. obviously when the count was super high i would say no and if it was crappy i would say yes.
that guy deserved his tips!

I was HU. As ridiculous as it sounds, I wished I hadn’t won that much so I wouldn’t ‘need’ to tip. But my skin wasn’t thick enough to walk away and not tip the same dealer a cent when she just 10x my buyin at the end of my sess. Guess I have to grow some more balls and skin

I wonder, since your counting, if tipping could be +ev just to be able to stay in the game longer (not get caught).

Is tipping in pit games standard? I've never seen it, but I hardly ever play pit games (once in a while I'll minbet craps or casino war with friends).

Can't imagine what tips they must get if they complain about getting "only" $50-$100.

I wouldn't feel an obligation to tip in a -EV game but I'm definitely a nit. If tipping was a strategy to reduce heat then I've got no problem with it.

nothing barring an absurd tip makes them happy when you win big.

there's also no point in counting if you're just gonna tip away your ev which was why I asked what your actual ev was.

i've dabbled back into card counting this year.overall i'm up about 18k. my best session and worst session were around 3500-4000 each.my spreads have been anything from 50-300 on dd, to 1 hand of 25 to 2 hands of 400 on a 6 deck game (usually spread less than this.)

If on a big session I threw them 100 bucks it still wouldn't be enough so what's the point? They turn over waxed cardboard, generally give terrible bs advice (so they're either stupid or liars), push people to make terrible side bets etc so why am I tipping? That terrible service is supposed to be worth hundreds of dollars an hour in their eyes? It's a joke.

So you want dealers not to call out checks play when it’s part of their house procedure and THEIR job on the line?

I was thinking the exact same thing. If I was still a blackjack dealer I'm sure my thought process would be this, "Oh look there's borg23 again, he's up 18k this year and hasn't tipped a single dollar. He thinks I'm stupid and all there is to my job is turning over waxed cardboard. I'm not going to call checks play when he bets big because he doesn't want me to attract any floor attention to this game, after all I just want to make him happy and maybe today will be the day he finally tips me. "

What does "checks play" mean?

It's something dealers yell out when someone is betting over a certain amount, presumably so the floor can make sure someone is watching the game a bit more closely.

that's basically the only reason i tip bj dealers at all but i would just occasionally throw a few bucks up for them on bets. it seems to be a lot more appreciated at smaller places.

but if i a dealer is going to mad at 75 bucks you're better off tipping 0.

they should call it out if that's their job. that's fine.i expect them to.

it's also fine for me to not tip mostly crap employees trying to prevent me from winning who pool their tips.

the entire casino industry is such a racket.

Almost literally by definition.

Basically what I felt after my sess. Guess it’s too late now, would have asked for the tip back. Just felt like it was pointless to tip that $75 which I can do many things with.

i'm not up 18k in any one casino. i'm down in probably 35% of casinos i've played in, including being down over 5k in two casinos at bj.

i don't expect any dealers to give a **** about me, want me to win etc. i also don't want their hands in my pocket when I play.

i stand by my point- the vast majority of bj dealers or worthless.even forget calling out checks play, they give bad basic strategy advice, blame players for ruining the "flow of the cards",try and get people to play sucker bets with massive house edges etc. and yes i think most (not all) of them are stupid. or liars.

i tip well in restaurants bars etc.but bj dealers are ungrateful entitled and help their customers lose even more money with their terrible advice.

if they want to hate me for not tipping i don't care bc they also hate people who "only" tip 75 dollars when they win 5k.

it's funny how they work for the house but most of their money comes in the form of tips. they rightfully want the house to win and protect the house. let the house pay them better.

it's funny how their attitude is never" this casino made 10 million dollars last quarter and they pay me ****." it's "that guy just won a few thousand, who lifetime is down piles to the casino and he only threw me a few hundred dollars". nice brain washing job by the casinos.

years ago i actually played at a place in vegas where dealers kept their own tips.
those good dealers i tipped well-they were fast, cut deep ,didn't keep ploppies terrible advice etc.

Is there any casino out there now that don’t pool tips for table games?

I haven't played blackjack very much, but the times I did play, it seemed like the dealers were happier when they players won than when the house did. Don't know why you would say they "rightfully want the house to win".

they're mostly happy bc they know players winning are more likely to tip

I'm not sure if Vegas still has any casinos where dealers keep their own tips at bj.

I can't imagine wanting to deal table games in a room that had dealers keeping their own tips. I'd get tilted too easily if I got stuck working a slow shift or if I was constantly doing dead spreads. Who wants to be the guy that comes in at 10 AM to a half empty casino and hearing stories about the whale that was betting $25,000/hand until 4:30 AM the night before?

On the other hand, I once played poker in a room that pooled dealer tips and I thought that was ridiculous as well.

an easy problem to solve. either 1)draw lots or 2)rotate shifts evenly

There's no shortage of experts among players when it comes to how to run a casino.

Let's assume that over been working as a bj dealer in the same room for 30 years and have the seniority to choose the shift I want. I work noon to 8 PM Monday through Friday.

My daughter works in my casino as a cashier Wednesday through Sunday from midnight to 8 am. I watch her 4 year old son while she works.

I'm making $50k a year as a dealer thanks to tip sharing even though I don't work nights or weekends.

Please explain how your easy solution isn't making me and my daughter's life unnecessarily complicated.

In the casinos where pit dealers keep their own, are there Asian games or carnival games?

Then I'd say you're making too much money for someone who is standing behind a table on dead spreads all day.
