Please explain how my giving a cocktail waitress $2 instead of $1 is tipping less, Einstein.

You also might try to explain how tipping the valet on the front and back end a total of $6 also constitutes a justification for tipping less.

I’m curious where he’s getting all these $2 bills.

They're also widely available in certain gentlemen's clubs in Lexington, KY.

I've tipped a few Jeffersons (the paper ones) to the bartender/cocktail server at a local cardroom. He says he saves them up and then uses them to buy things like a TV. He didn't seem put off.

For those who play at large poker rooms in Vegas-style casinos:

Do you tip the floor man? When? When you sign up or ask for table changes?

Do you tip the floor/shift manager when you ask them for comps that you earn from your players card?

Just wondering what's standard and expected. It seems like most people at the casino I play at don't tip.

Depending at what casino you’re at, floor supervisors and shift managers may NOT be allowed to receive tips. I know casinos in Northeast that’s how it works. Even at “Vegas Style” Casinos such as Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Never hurts to ask a floor man if they can/are allowed to received gratuities.

10% of the people that receive them are like "neat a $2 bill." 90% are like "lol this ****ing guy"

I had no idea that floor supervisors and shift managers at some Northeast places are not allowed to receive tips! I hope none of the ones I did tip took offense if it’s not the norm. It wasn’t a “bribery” situation (which I assume may be the reason why the rule exists) but I had asked them for multiple table changes and to backtrack me in the system for comps when I didn’t get swiped in.

It would be helpful to get a list of the casinos with a tipping restriction policy. I have heard Commerce had this policy implemented in recent years because the corruption was out of control there.

It's certainly not all casinos by any means. You can always tip them and if they aren't allowed to take it, they will simply tell you that. My floor staff can accept tips, but they also act as brush and cashier which makes it more reasonable. Either way, your theory of tipping after a table change is fine. I see a lot of tips from that and players asking for a TV channel change, requests to look up comps, etc.

I can't accept tips when I'm wearing a suit, which I do once every couple of weeks. I'm never offended when someone tries! I've been told I have the choice of gently telling them I'm not allowed to take it or I can thank them and drop it in the nearest dealer's toke box or the tournament tip box. I'm still glad to receive it, knowing it can get passed along to a dealer I know deserves it.

Yeah, that's why more often than not, whenever I take one out of my money clip and put it on the table in anticipation of giving it to the cocktail waitress when she brings my drink, another player at the table will ask if he can "buy" it from me.

You really are clueless.

It's more based on state law than individual casinos. In Illinois suits can not accept tips.

So it sounds like NY also has this law. Anyone know about Maryland?

Floors can't accept tips where I work, but I have seen a floor accept a few red chips as a tip and walk across the room and drop it in a dealer's box (one who is their close friend) and I was pissed.

It's a terrible look for the casino to allow the employees who will be making rulings both for and against players to accept tips from those same players.

If I see Player A give Supervisor A some red chips or a green chip as he's seated and then a short while later Player A is involved in a hand that requires a supervisor ruling and Supervisor A comes over to make that ruling, I'm inclined to think that he is going to issue a ruling that will best benefit Player A.

The room I deal in not only allows floorman to accept tips from players, they also get a daily cut of dealers tips. I've seen quite a few WTF rulings in favor of players that are known to tip floors.

FYI, even though they perform the exact same duties as supervisors in other states they're officially called floorman in this room and not floor supervisor specifically so the casino can skirt state law and put the floorman in a mandatory tip pool funded by the dealers. This benefits the casino by allowing them to reduce their labor costs by passing a great deal of the supervisors pay on to the dealers.

Who gives a shot if he uses $2 bills? You ever find a business that turns them down?

No business that turns them down, but if you get some young kid who is completely clueless that they exist, he will call a manager over thinking it’s counterfeit money lol

I had no idea that people thought anything negative about tipping with two dollar bills. I've never seen anyone have a negative reaction to getting one, especially if it is in lieu of getting a one dollar bill. But just to be safe, I guess I'll start bringing a bag full of Sacagawea Dollar Coins to use instead.

Exactly. It's just the one or two gentlemen in this thread who have an issue with it for some reason.

Except this isn't how it works.
It's not a matter of the casino paying their employees.

It's a question of paying them little be default and letting people choose how much more to contribute or forcing people to contribute a set higher amount (though increased rake/fees/whatever) and then passing it along to the employee.

The casino will usually always just increase their revenues to offset the new expenses of paying their employees more which means that people are still paying their wages.
