80x more chips for a "voluntary" dealer add-on of 5% of the buy-in. LOL. Definitely not tipping anything at the end since it's virtually guaranteed they got the $10 from everyone.

Why did the casino decide to make players pay $200 for only t100 chips, then give 79 times more chips if you pay $10 to the dealer)? Are the players so cheap there and didn't tip a cent that the casino had to force tips?

I'm a reg at the 5/10 at a local casino and I play about 100 hours a month. I am an average tipper - I tip at least $1 for all pots that see a flop, even if the pot is only $20. If the pot is $500-$1000 I'll typically tip $3. If it's over $1500 I'll usually tip $5. For pots over $3000 I often tip $10.

I've been playing at this casino for 3-4 years now. I tip all the dealers. Some will get the $3 - $10 tips more often because they are good dealers.

I've always been nice and courteous to everyone, but there is one dealer who is a jerk to me. I'm a guy in my late twenties who is decent looking, in shape, and appears to have money (I sit with a few thousand at the table) and at the risk of sounding conceited, I think the dealer who is a jerk to me is an older guy who is just a hater. When he's waiting to push or in the box, he'll try to put me down in another language (we speak the same foreign language). He'll say things such as "Is that a real <insert luxury watch>? I can't tell hehe" and "Nice girl... how much did you have to pay for her hehe" He's acting like he's just kidding but he's clearly trying to put me down. He's also poked fun at my thinning hair - "your forehead got bigger" or degrade me for being a pro poker player who goes to the casino every day - "You don't do anything huh, you come to the casino every day". When I broke up with my girlfriend a couple of years ago, he asked me "Where's your girlfriend?" I answered sincerely and told him it didn't work out so we broke up. However, months later, he continued to ask me "Where's your girlfriend" to needle me about her being gone.

I've always just laughed it off, but I've decided to stop tipping this guy. It's been 3 sessions that I've had him deal to me that I didn't tip him at all, not even after winning big pots. I can tell he's getting tilted. He looked pissed and started avoiding eye contact with me by the third session.

Is this going too far, or is it totally legit for me to stop tipping this guy who was an ass to me? How long do you think it's reasonable for me to not tip him? I was thinking for life unless he confronts me and apologizes for being ass or starts kissing my ass.

Better move would probably be to bring the issue up with the floor.

^You talkin' to me? As a dude, it wold be kind of a sissy thing to complain to the floor about an older dealer who is making jabs at me in a foreign language? It's like telling the teacher about a bully instead of outsmarting him or fighting back. Why not take matters in my own hands and stop tipping him? I can jab him back but that would be stooping to his level.

Personally, sounds like the dealer is trying to be edgy-friendly but is missing the target by a mile.

If you want to take matters in your own hands, why not just talk to him during one of his breaks? Tell him you don't appreciate his banter, in any language.

a pretty simple, "why don't you shut the **** up" in English seems like it would do the trick.

As two grown men, I can't imagine how this conversation would go down.

Me: Hey, do you have a moment to stand aside to talk?
Dealer: hehe of course my friend
Me: I don't like it when you make comments about my receding hairline, girlfriend being too good for me and has left, luxury goods being potentially fake, and not having a real job. I would like it if you stopped.
Dealer: hehe ohhhh I'm sorry, it never crossed my mind that it would hurt your feelings. I will stop my friend. By the way, you didn't tell that cute little girlfriend of yours about what I said right. I was just joking hehe. Don't take it so seriously my friend! Also, I know just the right treatment for that receding hairline. With all that money you gamble with on the table I'm sure you can afford it if you took some time away from the casino. Just trying to help you out my friend hehe.

Maybe it wasn't clear from my OP, but this dealer is a massive troll. It's hard to convey his tone of voice in written form but he's the type that loves to gossip and make cheap jabs. I understand his type- they're stuck at a job where they are bored so they find time to entertain and feel better about themselves by gossiping and putting others down.

That's pretty much exactly how it should go down minus the "hehe" stuff. He might talk **** to other dealers in the break room about you, but other than that if he's not some sort of social ****** he'll lay off you. If he doesn't, then talk to a shift manager about it. Wiper's approach might work too, but it opens you up to being reprimanded by the floor or tempbanned/banned from the room.

then tell a floor that if that dealer makes another degrading comment about your ex gf or hairline, you're going to tell him to shut the **** up.

rapini is probably right depending on if the dealer genuinely thinks he's being friendly, and I personally think talking to the floor first is a tad passive aggressive for me, but looking another man in the eyes and saying "you should shut the **** up" says more about your desire for the conversations to end than a floor person gently reminding him that you are a paying customer...

I can do that. But it shows that i am bothered by his words, and if I continue to tip him it shows that I still have to help pay his bills even though he kept insulting me. He's still in the driver seat.

Cutting off his tips cuts deeper. It puts him in his place.

telling him STFU and not tipping him are mutually exclusive?

I'd say you should have stopped tipping him after the first rude comment he made. After all this you should stop forever, even if he apologizes. If anyone asks you why you don't tip him when you are so generous to most dealers, tell them the truth, and don't be afraid to let the rest of the table hear you. If he continues to do it after the tipping then maybe complain to his boss.

Like, I'm all for standing up for oneself, but are these comments really getting to you that much? Casually making a quip back, or making a sarcastic "ha ha ha!" transitioned into your straight-face might work. The fact that this guy uses your other language with you might make him think he's being friendly (many douchebags genuinely don't realize how douchey they are actually being on a daily basis, or they'd make efforts to stop).

"Where's your girlfriend?" "Oh, is your Alzheimer's kicking in? we broke up like a year ago and you've asked thirty seven times since then."

"You don't have a real job?" "You mean like your's?"

I mean, there's a million ways to deal and diffuse this, but it seems like albedoa might be onto something? Are you really that insecure about all this stuff you told us about yourself? There's a non-zero chance he thinks he's just playin' around. Either way, the only way you can be offended is if you put weight into his words and decide to be offended.

man, I know it's a casino and it's his source of income, but if you tell a man multiple times to leave you the hell alone and he doesn't, your next play is to tattletale?

And, unlike OP, I'm not even going to bother to give him a second chance. The guy's a jerk, he's been a jerk for a long time and it was 100% intentional. This dealer has just served you a lengthy dose of torment with absolutely no remorse for it; its a perma-ban from tips for me and I wouldn't give it another thought. No apologies accepted because I know they wouldn't be coming from a good place. And, I might even go so far as to tell others not to tip this guy because when he was "talking in that foreign language to you during the game?"...He was actually talking badly about the players.

Haha.

It annoys me to the extent that this dealer is being an ass to me when I have always been nice and polite to him, but I have accepted that people like him will always exist in this world and to not take it personally, and I want to give them what they deserve.

I can accept reality - receding hairline (though honestly, the dealer is the only person to ever mention it), ex gf (it was a dysfunctional relationship that I am over), etc.

I have laughed it off and casually made quips back.

But on top of this I've also stopped tipping. I was just wondering if the not tipping thing is taking it too far, because the dealer is clearly getting very tilted by this!
