I had 17 W2's from machines last year and I have 5-6 this year. I gave $10-$20 on each of those jackpots ($4000 royal being biggest). Probably low but why do I care?

17 W2's in a year? What's the minimum threshold for the casino to issue a W2 on a slot? If you avg $15 tip on your 17 W2's, then that's an additional $255 you can lose at slots.

Not that I don't think people should tip a runner, but the rationalization for doing so is usually pretty interesting.

Let's be fair. If you're playing slots, is the real reason you're not tipping because it cuts into your "yearly winrate"? lol Maybe you shouldn't be playing house-advantage games if you're worried about small edges.

I'd rather walk into a casino and give $100 to the first employee I see than gamble that money in a house game.

That said, the reason they don't tip is because it cuts into their yearly degenrate. Even so, winning poker players, losing poker players, slot sluts... have nothing to do with tipping; it's your money to do what you want with it.

We are talking about slots. Rational thought stayed home.

I did not realize there was more involved than slot runner going and getting money and bringing it back, so I guess there is some additional justification for a tip.

Ever since I started thinking about this it has me thinking about tipping in other situations. For example, I recently had my car washed and some kid spent probably 10-15 minutes scraping dead bugs off my wind shield, cleaning crumbs off my floor boards and wiping brake dust off of my wheels. If I am tipping a slot runner $20, then these kids deserve way more than the $5 I throw them for their services.

I have no idea what tipping at slot machines has to do with poker.

You haven't picked up on the fact that B&M is a poker forum? I thought you'd been around long enough to know that.

Haha nice.

On a more serious note, here's the forum for non-poker stuff:

Apologies for the derail.

I'll try to get us back on track
Fwiw, I tip dealers $1 per pot pushed my way with the following exceptions;

1) raise pre and win blinds I do not tip.
2) win monster >$100 pot I will tip more than $1 (if the dealer is subpar I stay at $1)

I tip $1 everytime I win, even if it's just the blinds.
on the other hand, it stays $1 even if the pot is a few hundred.
(altho if it's over $1000+ and there's a few sidepots, then I'd tip $5. )

Personally, I think tipping slot runners and such is more topical than 2000 posts on waitstaff at restaurants.

I've only once gotten a handpay from a slot runner (binked $3k on a Royal). I knew I should tip but had no idea how much was "standard". Runner came and paid me 29 100's and 5 20's. So I gave a 20. I asked a few people after and they said that's fine. But if I binked $3k in a table share of a BBJ I probably tip the dealer more than that, maybe 50-100. For me it's just different somehow.

how much do poker dealers get from the casino (ie: Md Live)?
$2.35/hr, same as waitresses?

$3.63

Most employees must be paid the Maryland State Minimum Wage Rate. Tipped Employees (earning more than*$30*per month in tips): must earn the State Minimum Wage Rate per hour. Employers must pay at least*$3.63*per hour.

Amusement and Recreational Establishments:*must pay employees at least 85% of the State Minimum Wage Rate or $7.25, whichever is higher.

I'm sure this has been covered and I apologize if it's been beat to death.

Is tipping proper etiquette after a tournament cash if there was a dealer add on?

Technically, they already took out a cut for the dealers, however, it's your money. On a big cash out, I'm tipping on top, on a smallish one, probably not. Actually, definitely not.

Most of the dealers are under paid and earning minimum wage and if you don't tip them they can sometimes screw you

ORLY.

How?

"HA ha sir! You didn't tip me! I shall now cut the deck SO YOU LOSE!"

(That said, always tip your dealer, just don't ascribe them magic powers they don't have)

Bad pitching (have to reach far/semi flashed cards maybe). Try to rule against you in marginal spots like whether out of turn action is binding. If you ask for reduced rake it is eligible next hand if a good tipper asks it is eligible the current hand. Could also make them not deal you a hand when you are close to the table but not at your seat. Also they may screw you out of your hours on the player card or at least be quicker to clock you out.

Well then they should be fired for not doing their job properly.

1. Now he's going to have to reach for my bets and my discards. I hope it aggravates his shoulder and back problems (which most dealers have).

2. I know the rules. If the dealer lies, then he will get a 30 minute monologue on his dishonesty. If he calls the Floor to try to shut me up, the Management will get a formal complaint about the dealer.

3. If the rule is that this hand is eligible (ie only 5 were dealt in) then the rake will be the lower rate. Or we will have a discussion with the Floor. Then the Shift Manger. Dealer just cost the House 3-4 hands worth of rake and himself tips from the Georges at the table.

4. No biggie. One hand is not going to kill me, and I do not make a habit of continually standing away from the table when I want to be dealt in.

5. Again, I watch out for myself. I watch you clock me out and in. I do not expect "extra time"

6. Finally, if I see any dealer doing 1-5 to anybody (not just myself) on the table as "retribution", I will follow my own course of action.
