I did indeed misunderstand.
When I read the post, I was not aware that a dealer sometimes tipped the chip runner. Now that I see it from this angle, it makes perfect sense. The player that gave that tip should not care what happens with it in a perfect world. We all know that is never going to happen, though.
If I received money from someone with specific instructions as to how it was to be used, I might not accept it, depending on the circumstances. A tip is the same as a gift. All that is usually required is a thank you after you receive it. You could burn it, or wipe your butt, but it is probably not a good idea to do either of those things in front of the giver.
